My very favorite girl is due the 2nd. I swear she's going to have him in the next 36 hrs. She's been rolling and st reaching to get him into position. I know it's a bull calf from the ultrasound. Can you say dinner. I just so hope all goes well. I felt and seen him do some amazing moves in his mommy today. He even beat the snot out of me when I was giving him mom a back rub. She loved the massage by the way. She's as big as a house too. I love my cows.

Still waiting. I know a watched cow never delivers. Also I know she will wait till the storms hit then pop him out . I just want to see him. So I stay busy and wait.

Our first is due the 5th. We have been watching her like crazy. Her first due date came and passed 2.5 weeks ago. We really thought she was ripe then, but her bag never filled out. Now it is making it difficult for her to walk. Any day now. This day would be great. Tomorrow would be good. Friday would be...

Bull calf or heifer?!
I found Christine in labor when she had Lil ... nothing was sticking out yet, so I ran to the house for the camera, and by the time I got back, she was licking her off. I missed it, darn it!

willowgirl Bullcalf Sunny is 6. I was hoping for a delivery like you described, but it was more typical. 30 minutes of ummpph. She started when I was milking goats, so we didn't miss a bit.

Congrats, @awnry Abe! I'd ask for pics, but I can't figure out how to get my pics up with this new OS, so I'll keep my mouth... er, keyboard shut.

We had our first calf born yesterday. We raised Bella (the momma) as a bottle calf and had her bred to a miniature jersey bull because she was small and we wanted her to have an easy first delivery.
I was watching her through the window early in the morning and then went out to feed her as she was very restless. She ate but you could tell she was contracting. I gave her a little time and then went out to her barn to make sure she was progressing. Baby had just been born and she was just turning to clean her. Prettiest little heifer I've ever seen!
She was having some difficulty eating yesterday so we asked the folks from the miniature farm to come out and help. They worked with her a while and she finally got the hang of nursing. We had low temperatures last night but hubbie had fixed their barn so there wouldn't be drafts. I was concerned if Bella would know how to take care of a calf but she's extremely attentive. She was okay with us working with the baby and her which made it easier.
The other farm was telling us how good of a first time milker (they had to get some milk to put in a bottle to let the baby practice nursing) and mother she was being. They also said she had great milk production and udders which relieved us! It'll still be a few weeks before we try milking her for household use but we're so excited that delivery day came!

Still no baby. Her ligaments are almost totally gone. Walking is getting hard for her. Her udder is so big for a first timer. She still enjoys her back rub. She has lots of goo coming out. I'm going crazy!

Ligaments are totally gone.lots of snot. I have her up by the house closer so I can see her every two hours. Soon I hope to be snuggling my new calf. If God is willing for him to be born alive. I'm so excited for her.

Well, we are certainly willing for him to be born alive, but that doesn't matter much. Praying that you get a healthy calf, healthy cow, and healthy night's sleep. She sounds ready.

I'm waiting with you. In my experience, watching first-calf heifers is nail-biting time...every time. Each labor-birth is unique.

At around 7 am she had a large 95 lbs bull calf. Black with a white belly. Very broad head. I had to pull with everything I had. Dh had to grab me and pull me to finish delivering the calf. I lost feeling in two of my fingers from pulling so hard on the ropes. The heifer holly is doing great and has enough milk for two calves. May need to find another calf for all the extra extra milk.

Wasn't able to get pictures today. It was castrating and dehorning day. Plus we had to amputate a little bucks leg. Well it was just hanging by a tendon so just a super fast snip. The sedation was the hardest on him. It's dark and raining now. All is well on the homestead tonight.
