We are a country of 112,000,000 domestic hogs (not including Washington Redskins) and who knows how many wild hogs. The number of piglets per litter hit a record high of around 10.
In Iowa hogs outnumber people more than six to one. What do Iowans do with all the poop and pee? I have a suggestion for a new state motto, "We stink." I wonder what the Muslim population is in Iowa? (North Carolina stinks too.)
Fortunately for hog raisers and consumers the lowest grain prices in five years.

If it wasn't for illegal immigrants I think we would have to shut down meat processing. One would think PETA would be all for sealing off the borders.

Boy, you couldn't tell it by feeder pig prices this year. I hope to see a little lower price before I decide to buy a few more to feed out.

At Sam's last week pork loins were $.10/lb cheaper than boneless chicken breasts. We make our own dogfood, and our dogs are literally eating high on the hog.

Yep, pork is cheap now, not sure of weaner prices here, Its cheaper to purchase a butcher hog than to feed a weaner out. Local store had pork roast on sale last week for 95 cents per pound. 250 pound hogs bring about 125.00 bucks at the sale barn.

Yeah, I hope weaner pigs are cheaper next year. Last year 15# (+/-) baby pigs were around $35-$45 each at the sale barn. This year they were $65-90 each. Last year I raised 5, this year I have two.

Pork prices are starting to drop in our area, but not by much. Sometimes, I think that the banks need to set up kiosks in grocery stores, and making loans, just so consumers can buy pork and beef.

Pork is low here, too. Saturated market?

I guess the next time I'm in town, I'll have to see what pork prices are like in the stores. I still have so much pork in the freezer from my last pig, that I don't need to buy any, but I like to keep an eye on the prices anyway.
