Has anyone ever made this? I need another block for my Civil War quilt. I was going to make Orange Peel- pieced where the football shapes are two colors. But, after drafting a pattern and putting the pieces together I decided not to. Circling Swallows can be dated back to 1800, so I thought that would be period. It’s an 8 pointed star, each diamond made of 6 or 7 pieces. I’ve made stars, but not where each diamond is pieced by itself. It should be interesting and I hope I don’t get too frustrated with it. At least all of the seams are straight. fieldguidetoquilts.com/1Star/1Star8/1Star8.html At the bottom of the page. I think I would do mine with the same color background so that you don’t see the star. There are enough stars already. I’m thinking of making the first border a narrow solid color, then flying geese all around. They seemed to use a lot of flying geese back then. Honk!

I like the block, but I think it might try my patience!

I like it. I can see it all scrappy, too!
