Went shopping for Linoleum for our Cabin. Went to a discount place everything was clean, displayed well and reasonable price.
Being cheap we decided to look around, went to a place we use to deal with. Everything was piled haphazard, over priced. We left there was going to go to a Salvage place but decided not to bother.
We are going with the first Discount place and will be going back for other flooring for our House. Thinking of going with anything but Carpet with Dogs it is way harder to clean.

Around here, more and more people are eliminating all carpeting. We never did put any carpeting in when we built this house 15 years ago. Any rugs we have down need to fit into my washing machine. We do have one 5 x 8 foot piece in our great room. Once a year it gets hung over the porch rail and I use the power washer on it. I love the power washer idea. I have two larger area rugs (maybe 4X6, but too big to throw in the washer). Since one of those is in the hall off the attached garage, it's getting kind of nasty. I thought I'd have to replace it since I couldn't wash it, but the power washer is a great idea! Since moving here, we've removed the carpet in the living room, two bedrooms, and downstairs family room. We have a little more to go (basement stairs and entryway hall) but that carpet will be history sometime this winter.

Oh my gosh that is a great Idea, I am having hardwood put in next week, 1156 sq ft and the area rugs will be needed in some places and I was dreading the thought of how to clean, YOU are my hero Tallpines

I got rid of the carpets not too long after moving into my home and doubt I'll ever have a carpeted house again. Just seeing what was on the underside of the carpet and the padding was enough to totally gross me out, and that was after I'd cleaned the carpets several times when I moved in. Blech!

True Blech! for us was when we removed the carpet in the lower level family room. The prior owner had put new carpet in when putting the house on the market. But he apparently wanted to do it on the cheap, because the new carpet was laid over the old padding. The 25 year old padding. The old padding that was laid right over the concrete floor with no vapor barrier at all. And let me repeat for effect - this was in a basement. A prone to dampness basement. The padding was disintegrating and sticking in globs to the concrete floor. I honestly have never seen anything like it.

Blech, blech and triple blech! Refresh my memory - what did you end up putting down?

Blech, blech and triple blech! Refresh my memory - what did you end up putting down? Umm...thank you? I'm in the lead for the house with the most disgusting padding. It really was beyond gross. We ended up putting in a floating floor of engineered hardwood in a dark hickory. But first, we scrubbed the living daylights out of the concrete floor (it took many hours to get up all the little goo balls of disintegrated padding that were stuck to the concrete), painted the concrete with two coats of vapor barrier paint - and put a vapor barrier subfloor on top of that. Surprise, surprise - the family room no longer has that lovely damp basement odor. I was not a fan of carpet before, but after seeing underneath the carpet in this house I doubt I'd ever have carpet anywhere again. @rockpile, I totally agree with you - I'd go with just about any flooring other than carpet, especially with dogs. Not only is it hard to vacuum up, but when we removed the carpet in our old house we found dog hair not only from our dog but from any dog that had visited us over the prior 10 years.
