Well, after a 4 year hiatus from brewing beer, I jumped back in this weekend. I brewed up a nice English Brown Porter. Took my gear out to a friends' farm and we had a good brew session. Here is the wort right after I pitched the yeast and put on the blow-off tube (basically a big airlock).

I'm on a 20+ year hiatus. Every now and then, a thread like this will sparkle an interest in trying again. But I have enough distractions at the moment.
What types of environmental conditions do you need to maintain? I see you have some sort of diy enclosure.

Yea, that is the insulated big pink box. Made from 2inch rigid foamboard. I sized it so I could fit 2 carboys (the big glass jugs) in it. Just measured, cut and glued it together. Not pretty but it gets the job done (and done well).
After brewing, the beer was too warm to put the yeast in (needs to be below 78F) so I put a lot of ice jugs in there to cool it down. After about 5 hours the temp was right so I added the yeast, stirred it up, then but on the blow-off tube (basically a big airlock). Several hours later the temp of the liquid was around 67F (which is the temp I want to ferment at) so I removed all but 1 ice jug to maintain the temp around 67F. I have to change out the ice jug about twice a day to maintain that temp. Fermentation should take from a few days to a week (some heavy beers can take longer).
