Hi all, I'm just starting to get into making soap & I'd like your input on Immersion Blenders. What do you all recommend for a total beginner, that is, brand, price, what do I look for. I'm basically wanting to make soap for our own personal use, not so much for selling, at least at this point. Any & all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a few for soap making and soup making. Proctor Silex and Hamilton Beach. Two cheap brands that have lasted for years. For soap I want plastic with stainless steel blades. Avoid aluminum because it will start to deteriorate in the lye-soap solution. Almost always I buy them for $10 or $15 on sale at Walmart in the sale aisle. When you use a hand blender, use it quickly, (as long as it takes) then right to the sink, dip it in soapy water, rinse, and you are all cleaned up for the next time.
A one piece that doesn't come apart, is my favorite, Proctor Silex. No extra parts or connections to keep clean or break. Buy it as cheaply (frugally) as possible, they do last but if they didn't last they are replaceable. I've had mine over 10 years already.
I use mine for soap, cream of tomato soup, cream of broccoli soup, mayonaise, really anything you want to make something smooth and creamy. I hope that helps, aim for on sale, cheap.

Proctor Silex or Rival (rivel??) the inexpensive one piece ones.
I don't use them continuously when making soap. Have them on for a couple minutes, then off & hand stir for a few minutes. Turn back on, then off and hand stir.
Always have a back up on hand!!!
I still have my original one I bought new 16 years ago when I started.

I don't make soap but I recently bought an immersion blender for a soup that's been in our weekly rotation for a long long time. I got the Ovente one which was on sale for $15 or $25 at the time. Stainless steel, really powerful, comes with the whisk attachment, food processor (wouldn't recommend this for fine shredding of garlic or ginger [smallish veggies] though) and the see-through measuring cup/container. Company had excellent customer service. I had scratches on mine and asked if it was used, they refunded the money and told me to keep the old. Had to deal with the company since it was not fulfilled by Amazon when I bought it. As for the price it is now $40 but if you add it to your cart in Amazon it will show you when the price drops every time you hit "Cart" on the top right. Here's the link www.amazon.com/Ovente-HS58SB-300-Watt-Multi-Purpose-Stainless/dp/B00SGGIQPQ/ref=sr_1_26?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1444647779&sr=1-26&keywords=immersion+blender
