A burglary suspect who was possibly hiding in a Florida lake died after being attacked by an alligator, according to news reports.
Florida Today reported Monday Riggins was killed by an alligator while possibly hiding to avoid law enforcement. "He probably went into the lake to hide from the officers and the dog, and came across that gator," Maj. Tod Goodyear told the Brevard County Reporter. "To hide somewhere to try and get away, and then meeting up with an animal like that, no, I've never had that happen before."
"Inside the gator's stomach, the medical examiner found proof of how Riggins was killed," the report continued. "I would say it's poetic justice, you want to sit there and steal from people," Barefoot Bay resident Chuck Stokes said.
Note: I'm one of us that lives in gator country, big gator country at that. I know its wrong to steal, but I also have observed big gators up close with some of their more than grotesque means of consuming their prey. I actually feel sorry for this fellow. I'm trying to come up with a humorous tag line for this story, but for the life of me I cannot seem to find the poetic justice. Maybe Mr. Stokes was a fan of Dante. Anyway, anyone who knows 'gators knows not to go swimming at night around where they live and hunt.

Actions have consequences. Mr. Riggins bad habits caught up with him. Do you suppose the Wildlife dept allowed anyone to harvest the hide and tail of the gator? Is a man-eating gator good eating?

I'm pretty sure the hide probably didn't go to waste. I'd hate to think though, that I ate some gator that ate a neighbor, even if he were a thief.
