Instead of waiting on a hen to become broody, I decided buy a small incubator. First time in all the years I have raised chickens... using an incubator. 6 of the eggs are from the Rooster and Hen below. They are an experiment I am working on. The other 6 eggs, are d'Anver Millie fleur from one of the best breeders of Belgian d'Anvers in the US. They will have their own hen house and run, when they are old enough. Keeping my fingers crossed they all hatch and this year.. they are All hens. Need to break this Rooster streak!

Oh- please keep us posted...The rooster and hen are both beautiful! What are their breeds-he kind of looks Ameraucana'ish... Someday soon I want to cross my Buff Orpington roo with my Light Brahma hens and see what I get. Funny-I have had thoughts in regards to getting an incubator in case my Buff Orp "Girl" doesn't happen to go broody this Spring-need to do some research! Good Luck, Mari

Thank you Mari!
You are right, the Rooster is a lavender Ameraucana, with some gold leakage. Not good for the purebred breeding pen, but it is too nice to waste. The Hen is a Porcelain d'Uccle. Porcelain has the lavender gene. So I am hoping.. to get a nice combo of the two. Time will tell, as it will be a long term breeding project.
Normally I have really broody hens by now... not this year. Weather as been really strange, so I think it has the poultry confused. Why I bit the bullet and got the incubator. (not mind, that I really need more chickens) LOL
If you decide to hatch some of those crosses out, post photos!

I have the same incubator! I love it. I've had good luck incubating courtnix eggs and I hope you have the same luck with your endeavors!

I'm going to be following this thread. Love your rooster and hen. Would like to know how you do with that incubator. I am tempted to buy one like it.

What a cool looking incubator! Where did you find it? I have the large white styrofoam ones with the egg turners, I buy mine at TSC. Yours look was more fun than mine!
Beautiful birds:-). I love the feathers on the legs, really beautiful pair. Best wishes!

Your rooster is gorgeous!
I've got the Brinsea octagon and it works great, but I like that little incubator, too. Perfect for doing just a few. (a dozen or so is just a few when we're counting chickens, right?) and I'm sure it will work just as great.
It's so handy to hatch when YOU want or need to. Or w/Silkies, who can only set a couple eggs, but can BROOD a few more than that; I hatch and they raise.

Well, the person backed out of the sale of the those chickens.
It is just a, Brinsea Mini Advance Hatching Egg Incubator. Is the middle of the line of the mini incubators.

If you don't over fill it with eggs, yes, it does turn the eggs. I packed mine in a little tight.
