How long will it take for a cow with 4 month old calf to be integrated into a small existing herd of heifers? I have 14 bred heifers with my bull, got a cow/calf pair dropped on me yesterday. Two heifers have been rather rough with the cow, pushing her around and running her and the calf off to my bottom pasture. I need the cow up with the herd, specifically the bull. Any suggestions?

Usually it takes a day or three. Sometimes just a few hours. IMO, I would just put them in there and let them work it out. Will do, thanks possum!

Have no idea how to do this with large cows. The way I do so with goats is to first isolate to make sure new comer is healthy, then play mediator letting my herd of goats (who already know me as their leader) understand this new comer is here to stay too. Yes, I actually stand with the new comer for a lengthy period of time not letting anyone challenge her. Have no idea if this is right or wrong; but it works! (Of course, my herd is quite small in number; and standing between the new comer and the others with goats would not be like standing between when the animals are so much larger. Have no idea how to communicate with cow.)

motdaugrnds, The new cow came from the same pasture as the heifers, but was part of a different herd. The pasture was fenced into paddocks, but I don't know how much the herd intermingled. I didn't see the cow and calf last evening, but my bull was pretty interested in meandering down to the bottom pasture last night, I believe the new cow may have been "found"!
