After the bad kidding season we had last year, I was so nervous and then our first time mamma, the other day, miscarried her 3 month fetus .... and I was all "Oh Lord...here we go". She was much too rambunctious for an expectant mother and more than likely injured the baby trying to climb a gate. But...last night, my big doe, Heidi, who had so much trouble last year and was terribly depressed when she lost her babies had two beautiful kids in a beautifully normal delivery. First out was a doeling who is a frosty chamoisee and second out was a tall buckling, a dark mahogany like his Oberhasli dad. They took A While to get the hang of nursing but did much better after I milked her out some. Her udder was absolutely enormous by the time she delivered. It was dark and the camera wasn't charged so I didn't get pictures last night but I plan to get some today.

Congratulations. Kidding season is such a stress, at least for me, and it helps to have a easy delivery.

I had a Saanen miscarry this week. Kidding season is stressful. So glad you have some healthy kids!

@ Wendy... it sure sucks to wait for that baby and have the mama lose it. Sorry you had that happen too. The stress of kidding season almost had me trading them in for dairy sheep last year but I think I'll hang on to my goaties a bit longer. @ Redfish, Yeah! It's the dance of joy time.

Glad to hear things are going better this year. I would love to see some kid pics. I don't have any goats so I need to get my fix vicariously!

So, Petie likes to lay in the corner of the pen right up against the wall. The walls of the barn are metal and it's pretty cold out. I just checked on them and saw that his one ear is flopping over...it's still warm but I assume it got cold on the barn wall. I don't think it's frostbitten, but is there something I need to do to help it?

Can you put a hay bale against the wall in that corner so he can't lay against the wall? He could lay against the bale and be insulated a little. Cold weather kidding or lambing is always a challenge. Congrats on the new babies!

You can sure see the Oberhasli influence in both kids. What cuties! I'll second the hay bale against the cold wall idea.

Yeah, I used some hay piled in the corner where he likes to lay. His ear is still floppy but soft, not hard and frozen seeming.
So, I hadn't been back on here because next day our last bred doe went into labor. She also had twins (both bucklings) with little difficulty. YEAH!
But... one began to get weak and chilled a couple hours later. It happened really fast and as I rushed him inside the house he was just about gone when I reached the front door. We hurried and warmed him up and gave him some colostrum we had frozen from last year. He made an amazing recovery and is now bopping around the house with more energy than any of them. Looks like we have a bottle baby though, which is really tough when there's so much to get done around here every day. We might end up selling him as a bottle baby...that is, if DW can tear herself away from her little darlin.

@woolieface, Had to go and look up these pictures from last year, I found this tiny lamb laying in a wet puddle and not doing well at all, scooped her up brought her home (saved her) and it wasn't long she was ruling the house...LOL brat! I did sell her as a bottle lamb after she was with me for a few weeks

Shellymay, they sure do get in your heart space after you've brought them back from the brink. We're still deciding I guess, but he's a lot of work and we'll have lambs coming soon.
