You lie awake wondering whether you put the lid back on the semen tank ...

ROFL! This is the cattle forum, TRellis.
And I knew that, but it still did not stop my brain from thinking of other, shall we say, strange things that your post could have meant.

Ok, if you did that, can you tell me how expensive that tank and the training to do AI is?

I took my training through Select Sires over in Ohio. I guess that would have been about 4 years ago. They offer sessions around the area periodically throughout the year. The two-day class cost $500, but you got an equivalent amount in vouchers to spend with the company. (My boss paid for the class and got the vouchers, lol.) It was a very good class, and I left there feeling competent and ready to go!
Select Sires also offers its "students" a discount on a kit including a tank, breeding gun, etc., but since my boss already had all the equipment, I didn't buy my own, and can't remember the price.

I took the ABS class in Okeechobee, fl. , 3 days and 350 bucks. I have 250.00 in the AI kit. 700.00 in a tank. I have about a 1000.00 in semen in the tank also. It really not a lot when you factor the cost of a quality bull and the yearly expense of keeping him.

Not to mention how dangerous bulls are ...
One put my boss in the hospital years ago. That was when he started AI'ing the milking cows. We still run a heifer bull with the heifers).
