My boss said he sent 2 Holstein bull calves to last Monday's sale. They were a couple weeks old ... he said one weighed 110#, I'm not sure if the other was bigger or smaller. Said the check he received was just shy of $700. SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!

For holstein bulls? Woof!
I guess I did alright with my little Jersey... Nick says that holsteins go for more b/c they get bigger, but it's my understanding that dairy bull calves go for less than meat bull calves. Did I understand the guys at the feed store correctly, or is Nick right?

The youngest was 6 weeks and the oldest was 11 weeks. I paid $365 each and never needed a bottle ?

I guess a day old black heifer went for 675 this last Saturday at the sale barn. Makes me wonder when the top will be reached.

I thought they would crash this spring when calves came of wheat pasture here. They didn't crash but they dropped enough most people just got their purchase price back.
The market is so flat across the different weights it's hard to come out ahead unless the price goes up.

Bought some beef xbred heifers yesterday. 461 lbs @ $2.57/lb. Gonna run them on grass for the summer and hay for a month or two next fall. If prices hold and I get good gain, I will make a few dollars. IF<IF. Saw 2 or 3 day old black calves bringing $500. Scary last year, even more scary this year.

We just sold our lights, 400# at 2.47 a lb. day old beef calves have been selling for $500 to $1300, yep you read that right, I about choked on my coffee when I read that one. I have been making sure every one of our calves lives, lost 2 but that couldn't be helped. They are worth a lot this year and makes me wonder how'd far it will go.

This is the reason I haven't brought home any bottles calves in the last year or so. I don't go to auction often, but when I have, I have been astounded at how high the little bottle calves go.

We picked up 2 beef heifers last Sunday, right off of the farm. One was 2 weeks, one was 1 week, $250 a piece.

We went to the auction last week looking for goats. They ran 2 late arrival calves thru, one weighed about 100 lbs. and I don't remember what the other weighed. They brought....are you ready for this......$4.00/lb. DH asked "when did the price of calves go out of sight?"
