I am so sorry for your loss. That sucks.
Cocci can kill very quickly, I know folks who have lost several kids to cocci one year. Not one ever showed a symptom, no scours, just nothing.
Many many things can kill a kid quickly so there is no telling at this point unless you do a necropsy.
I don't know how many goats you have but having a necropsy done is a good idea. Why waste the death of the kid? I don't know what state you are located in but out state lab charges ~$40 for a necropsy on a goat. So much good data can come from it and it could possibly save more lives.

I had a necropsy done on a buck that died once. Biggest waste of money ever! I spent almost $200 & they could not determine why he died. Unless you have a bunch die, I wouldn't waste the money. Of course that is my opinion & you may feel differently.

@redfish,That's just the pits! I'm sorry. I had a favorite alpine doeling just lay down and die once. At least it seemed that way. Day before she'd been following us around. Next morning she was just dead. It stinks not knowing what happened when it seems to come out of the blue. I'm still bummed about that one. I hope you don't have any others do that.

So sorry you lost a kid. I would probably not do a necropsy if there is only one kid in your herd, but if you have quite a few it would be ,only well spent if they can find a reason.

Sorry for your loss @redfish, might have a vet check a fecal on the remaining brother and take a look see if anything shows up? how was he? does the doe have milk in both teats? might take his temp while you got a hold of him for banding.....I do hope that is the end of the sudden deaths for you.
