If there is an extra block, I'm in. I will not be able to participate in the drawing this year; so exclude me from that.
I do have a question: I understand the winner has to buy 4 yards of a "different" cotton fabric to send in for the "next" quilting project; however, does the winner, also, need to actually "quilt" the quilt? I'm sure you all know what I mean; however, since it has not been mentioned here, I'll add this means getting the material for the backing of that quilt as well as padding it well with a good cotton, then putting in the appropriate number of holding stitches. That can actually turn into a tidy sum of money to purchase all that. (My grandmother use to keep her quilting frame hanging over one of her beds all the time and created such lovely quilts.)

The winner can do whatever they want with the blocks. They simply send the fabric to start the next set of blocks. The winner only receives the completed blocks and the extra yard of fabric.

I see. So the winner actually gets the blocks for the front part of the quilt. That is a very nice gift! Is the size of this for a "full" size bed or "half" size or "queen/king"?

Thank you Tallpines. Also, I'm looking forward to this; so hope there are enough blocks left for me to have one of them. Also, I will be glad to help cover the postage for all that mailings Krisinmi; so please let me know where to send the money...even if there is not enough blocks for me.

That is why we send the extra fabric, so if you want to make more blocks to get a certain size quilt you can. The final size would depend on how many blocks you end up having, how wide you make any strips between the blocks, what type of sashing etc... You can use your own imagination/creative spirit.
This is a quilt I found on the internet, but it gives an idea of how a person could put together the blocks:

I could pop in a FQ of some nice NZ fabric to help offset the postage, krisinmi ,... That is an offer certainly too good to resist but you don't have to. You can if you'd like, I won't send it back, lol, but I don't want anyone to think they can't join in just because they don't live in the US. The forum quilt is open to all forum members regardless of location.

Woohoo!!!! That's a fantastic response. Can you just imagine what a stunning assortment of blocks will be winging their way around the world???
Two dear friends (one in the UK and one from the States) and I have just completed a 12 month 12" block swap. My UK friend just sent me a photo of her finished quilt. She put it together using the Quilt As You Go method for the first time and it looks terrific. Have asked her if she'll let me show you the photos.

Here are the links for my UK friend's quilt. She didn't put borders on - a step too far for QAYO this time, she felt - but I love what she did with the back. She tried to do a 12" square in a similar theme to that month's block. Liz said to tell anyone that might be considering doing a QAYG quilt with their blocks, that it's easy and not too fiddly to work with 12" ones. A good chance to have a good go at machine quilting, without the hassle of having to haul a whole quilt through the machine at a time. I haven't put mine together yet, but if it turns out half as nicely as hers, I'll be very pleased. She has a lovely colour sense.

Just found my name as one being included. Thank you krisinmi. Can you let me know when I might be receiving my block? (I'm pretty sure this will be a slow process for me; so I want to be able to get it done and back in time.

Fabric was mailed out today to everyone signed up so far. If you are in the Midwest, yours will probably arrive Saturday. East, South and West, yours might not show up until next week. I am really curious how long it will take for kiwifarmgal's to get to New Zealand.

I'll let you know krisinmi. It should take between 7 and 10 days. Looking forward to seeing what fabric you've chosen.

Ok, I'll try this again. Have to dust off the old sewing machine and find my ruler and cutter! Excited to see what the fabric is! Thanks, Kris~

Okay, I've been thinking it over good and hard, and I'm going to take the plunge and join, if there are still blocks available. I might need y'all to send me PMs asking how I'm doing on it, so I get it done on time! I've never done a quilt block like this before, so I hope it doesn't turn out too badly...with so many good quilters here on the forum, I don't want to mess it up!

manygoatsnmore, you're not going to mess it up! There's so many blocks to choose from or make your own up. There really isn't much of a wrong way to do it and plenty of people to help if anyone hits a bump.

The important thing is the friends that take part, not the perfection of the block!
Thanks for doing this, Kris.
