I'm pretty sad...we found one of our 5 month bred heifers down on Thursday evening, she was behind our pond dam and we didn't see her until hubby went looking for coyotes on that back side. She was in on Wednesday night for cubes, but we had a doozy of a thunderstorm with lots of lightening Thursday morning early and we are assuming she may have been standing near where lightening struck. She was paralyzed in her back end, she just couldn't get up. Vet came out and shot her full of calcium and dex and banamine, but nothing helped her. We put her down yesterday morning. Just made me really sad....

I'm sorry to hear this. Could be she slipped and did some kind of damage to her spine? Back enough to lose an animal, but to know it also means you lose the calf she's carrying, too just seems to make it that much worse.

aoconnor, That must have been gut wrenching for you. Working livestock gives you both the best of times and the worst of times. Sometimes things happen that just seem so pointless, and out of the blue. I'm sorry that you lost the heifer and the calf she was carrying. That hurts.

My condolences too. Not knowing just what happened makes it worse, doesn't it?

So sorry for your losses. Sometimes, there is just no saving them.
