Greetings! I make one or two batches of bar soap a year for personal use, stocking up, and giveaways/gifts. I don't post in the category much but think it's interesting to see what others are doing. My favorite scent is a mix of spearmint and clove for the essential oils and I put tea tree in a "medicinal" batch once in awhile. I make the standard laundry mix: washing soda/borax/Fels and only use store-bought rarely....I know that mix is not Real soapmaking!just thought I'd mention it.... I haven't made soft soap yet and am interested in an antibacterial one, but haven't even researched it yet! Too many other homesteading things I'm always busy with!

Hobbitlady, All soap removes germs so is anti-bacterial ... especially if you add eos such as tea tree, et al
Just waiting for the other soapmakers to appear ... donk should be here as soon as he has a break in his fire fighting

I've been waiting to try soap making until I had a space I could lock the cats out of. Once I clean out the studio above the barn I'll have no more excuses.

I learned a lot on HTs soapmaking forum. I love making soap! Made my first batch a month ago and just started using it. So far, my skin hasn't started peeling! I've made 2 more batches since then. One was a super flop but the 3rd one turned out pretty good, and I used my own recipe! Of course, we haven't started to use the soap yet. I guess that's the final test! Anyway, I'll be around trying to learn even if Im not commenting!

Well, here goes! If this takes, here's the description: The darker bars were my first batch. I barely got the stick blender in there and it became mashed potatoes! My husband pressed it into a mold. The round ones are the second batch and you (Cyndi) helped me out with it. My title for the thread on HT was "Is this soap any good." It erupted out of a Pringles can and was smoking! My daughter in law loves it! The third batch I made last weekend and it seems to have been made just right, time will tell! I used safflower oil for the insect repelling properties. Mosquitoes love my husband and I want him to be excited about my making soap .

I've been making lots of goat milk soap and it turns out nice. I don't like packaging, or I'm sure I could sell a lot more than I'm selling. Mostly I just give it away or put it on my desk at work for my coworkers to buy. I like making all-natural lavender with lavender buds, as well as several artificially scented soaps. I really like one I made recently - black raspberry vanilla with cranberry seeds. Everybody goes crazy for the chocolate soap with ground coffee for exfoliation. I like using molds.
