First off let me preempt this post by saying we have been "homesteading" for about 18+ years so this wonderful lifestyle is not new to us. Sometimes we are more self sufficient than others it all depends on life. For example, God moved us to central Iowa a couple years ago and it took awhile to find a place to buy. We are now in our second garden season here and things are getting more normal. That being said..........
We have raised most of our meat for years but never raised meat rabbits. I am thinking about it more and more. What can you tell me about it? Taste? How to cook? Oh anything you can think of. I will post in rabbit area too. Thanks!

As a kid, my family supplemented rabbit as a meat source for our family. Even as a kid, I found the meat flavorful and acceptable. (I was The Picky Kid.)
I did a foray of meat rabbits several years back, and as an adult, I greatly enjoyed the flavor and ease of raising bunnies!
Anything you can do with chicken, you an exactly substitute rabbit meat. Anything you would do to squirrel, even, can be done in Bunny! LOL!
It is a mild and tasty meat that cooks well and is naturally low in fat.
Raising rabbits is easy-peasy! They are quiet, don't take up much room, and can be caged their entire life in a bigger cage with no harm to them OR smaller cages and a safe place to graze to supplement feed.
As a kid, my father had repurposed an old tin roof section under the rabbit cages, and had guttering on the lower edge to augment waste disposal. A 5-gallon bucket at the end to collect slop, and a quick scrape and hose kept it smelling OK in their building.
Bunny poop is one of the few poops that can be put directly in a garden without aging. Convenient!
They breed easily, birth quickly, birth easily, grow quickly and can be butchered in a very short amount of time!
Butchering is easy, and pelts can be sold. We even had someone who wanted the rabbits' feet when I was young! LOL! Very little wasted product (intestines and a few organs and head) as even the organs you don't wish to personally consume can be repurposed as pet food supplement!
I am planning on a set of meat rabbits as soon as we move to some land! It is a very worthwhile investment!

Cheap meat, easy. We like California x with New Zealand. We feed oats and fodder, grass, clover, oats and peas used as cover crop in the garden and extra garden produce. Don't feed cabbage and such for several weeks before butcher time. We use same as chicken. We like slow baked after marinading in Italian dressing overnight....James.
