I've got 2 heifers that are almost a year old. My Jersey, Fern, is the mother of Carly (Jersey/Red Angus cross) and she and another Jersey we had joint raised Cricket (a Black Angus we got for cheap because she was blind). The calves have been separated from Fern since September. I put Carly back with Fern over the weekend, but was watching to make sure there was no nursing going on. They were fine until yesterday. When I went to milk last night, Fern was empty in one quarter.
I'd really like to not need to set up an extra fence to keep them separate. How can I convince them that they are big girls now and don't need mommy's milk?
