Now you know why the rabbit was so intent on keeping some distance ahead of the poor slower turtle.

...........Big , mean and Ugly ! You must have caught that guy on a Hook , or maybe on a trot line perhaps !? I was just reading today , can't remember where , they have captured (2) crocs (in florida) and their genome identifies them as NILE Crocs . They speculated that someone was breeding nile crocs and some how these had gotten loose OR maybe someone had let them go in the everglades . Nile crocs are closely related to Saltwater crocs and like to dine on full grown cattle , horses , fat aussies , etc . ............20 years ago no one would have believed that Pythons had established themselves in Florida , as well as Green Anacondas , and that other large snake I can't remember the name of . , fordy

We have some of those bad bears, big turtles and snakes...just have to remember when you camp around here to stay away from the deep water channels of the river, because you're never "Alone".@rockpile, fordy, gif upload

Had an Agent trying to give me a Ticket over killing a Common Snapping Turtle. He was saying it was an Alligator Snapper, I had to convince him it wasn't.

The alligator snappers get big. I saw one in Shreveport back in the late sixties as big as a wash tub, crossing a street in a residential district on the bayou. Some years back one of the magazines published a story about making turtle soup in New Orleans. They had pictures of shells that must have been five feet long. Story was that some of them had stone arrowheads embedded in them, one had a musket ball. No telling how old those turtles were when caught.
As for snakes, did any of you read the article that said the residents of Lake Providence, La killed 284 snakes on their snake-hunt day, trying to reduce the snake population on Lake Providence? Eighty Four Cottonmouths and the rest common water snakes.
