NOt if you buy a car nobody has washed for years, and/or let set under a tree for a summer. I used some of Aldi store brand version of liquid Tide (in bucket of hot water) on my Ranger after buying it last fall. It was filthy on outside. Paint actually in decent shape after I got the grime off it. The "Tide" didnt seem to hurt it in slightest.

hermitjohn, Oh, you mean if someone bought MY car?! That is what you are describing? Ours get washed maybe 1x a year or so. Not ever under trees at least.

I have rather low standards on looks of a truck. It runs and brakes, good enough for me. But that Ranger was super filthy when I bought it and I bought it as town grocery getter so just as well cops dont see me as some real lazy low life to pick on and legally steal my vehicle for their impound lot buddies to sell as scrap.
Any vehicle where there is significant paint left should get a serious wash at least once a year. Now my old F250 firewood truck, well frankly washing rust with some red and blue paint flakes interspersed is pretty pointless....

Lol, I had to give a quick scrub to my old Nissan p/u, Bessie Lou, the other day. Dawn in hot water took most of the Washington green slime off very quickly, but the windows needed a lot better scrub job than what I could give her in 5 minutes. Didn't even touch the truck box before loaning it to my sister...I bet it is returned to me exactly as she got it, if not worse. I use a bit of dish liquid in hot water for most of my car washing - works well, especially if you do it more than once a year, gracielagata, lol.

manygoatsnmore, Hehe... just saw your reply... Yep, I bet it does... I hate washing cars! I did actually clean the interior a few weeks back- likely brought about by this conversation! I have since kept it in the same shape it was- making it a point to take trash with me, remove little bits, wipe dust from things... progress! Your comment on the WA green slime really threw me for a loop- it isn't wet at all any point in the year over here on the east side to get any sort of slime- just dust!- on a car... I was so confused at first!

Lol, gracielagata, I guess I should say West Side Washington slime! Anything that sits outside for any length of time turns green. I think it's some kind of algae. At least when you wet it down, it comes off fairly easily. I saw my Nissan p/u today, and I was right - no further washing has been done.
