I try to feed my dogs the best food I can afford and that's available nearby. Has anyone fed Pure Balance from Walmart to your fur babies? Dogfoodadvisor.com has it rated at 4 out of 5 stars, but I'd prefer to have "real" reviews. If there's another food that you'd recommend please feel free to share.
TIA

The only thing at our local Walmarts are your usual purina/Iam/etc, so i cant speak to that one in particular.
I've fed Diamond Lamb and Rice for years and been quite satisfied. It's also a 4star. In my area, it's about $35 for 40lbs and I get it at any large or small feed store when Im getting livestock feeds.

I don’t shop in Walmart. dog food analysis is pretty right on with their assessments. Dog Food analysis uses a six star system. I did not find Pure Balance in 6, 5, or 4 stars. I feed raw,but if I have to feed kibble I use Taste of the Wild. Their flavors are rated 5 or 6 starts, depending on which one. Tractor Supply sells it.

Another vote for Taste of the Wild! Jasper loves it and the vet is happy with his health and appearance so I'm sticking with it.

Dog food advisor rates the Pure Balance. I'm not sure Dog Food Analysis is rating anymore. I did try it and the dogs' coats looked great, and 2 out of the 3 were happy. I fed the Wild Bison, which is rated 4.5 stars, but it has chicken. Turns out one of mine has a chicken allergy (along with a bunch of other allergies, including fish). Ainsworth makes it and I would feed it if we didn't have the allergy issue. For the allergic to everything dog, we're still trying to find something she can eat.

Grandpup gets Purina, from Walmart. DS says it is $5.00 cheaper there than feed store. Just the regular "dog" food, small kibble. Vet says she is surprised he does so well on it, not overweight. DS gives him 1/2 what they say, always a little in his bowl. He gets rabbit heads and other internals, always has a meaty bone going. Never begs. DS fed all the "good" puppy food, went to dog food at a year and a half but Grizzly likes this better. Very active, 1/2 border collie 1/2 black lab....James

Thanks everyone. I've got one picky eater and one that eats so fast he doesn't even taste it. lol Makes it fun trying to find a balance between healthy and tasty. They are also senior dogs, 13 and 11, so I'm trying to find the best food that I can afford.
I always forget that tractor supply has dog food because there isn't one near where I usually shop. I'll have to stop in and see what they carry locally and check out the prices.
Thanks again.

We feed the Costco brand. It usually rates pretty well. I do also cook for the dogs, so they get a minimal amonut of kibble.

I tried the Kirkland brand last year, but Miss Picky Eater wouldn't touch it. I really wanted my dogs to like it because of the rating and price, but nope.

I feed mine Taste of the Wild. Normally I buy it from the local farm supply store but Amazon also sells it for about the same price (sometimes for less).

Different dogs assimilate carbohydrates differently. Genetically, some dogs can hardly digest carbs at all, while others have little difficulty. Humans digest carbs better than any dog, but some dogs are pretty close. This is going to determine how well your dog does on any diet. Some dogs can do fairly well on a high carb diet that would leave another dog sickly. Any dog is going to do better if you also give him ‘people’ food and raw bones.

dogchow.com/dog-food/1216/complete-and-balanced Purina Dog chow is one of the worst: 1 star www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/purina-dog-chow/Since you're also feeding it raw, you're probably fine.

I fed Eukanuba for years. They finally priced themselves out of my range, which was hard because I liked their feed! I now use River Run from Nutrina Feeds and actually like it as well. I use the 24/20.

I tried pure balance a few times. Every time, it made my dogs extremely thirsty. Three dogs were easily each drinking 2-3 gallons a day!! 2 basset hounds and a dane mix. I figured it must be fairly high in sodium .

I have found that Exclusive (yes that's the brand, Exclusive--makes it very difficult to Google, unfortunately) Dog Food has been the best for my dogs--sold in feed stores only, it really seems to be easier for them to digest and less waste (ahem) and fewer "can't quite make it through the night" accidents. When we tried Taste of the Wild, we saw a LOT of water drinking, and a LOT of "can't make it through the night" accidents. All of our dogs are female and over the age of 8, so a food that is highly rated, has excellent ingredients, and fixes that problem is number one in my book!

We feed TSC's 4Health brand, and our dogs seem to like it. We switched to it a few months ago after my old Aussie seemed to have developed an allergic reaction to the Retriever high protein formula.
Numb is such a good pet parent that he personally tastes any new kibble to make sure it's good before feeding it to the dogs! Gag, retch!!

We transitioned over to Pure Balance and Little (Miss Picky Eater) has been eating it. As a matter of fact my son caught her eating the other dog's portion too. I haven't noticed a difference in the water intake, but I'll definitely keep my eye on it. We used to feed them 4Health, but honestly it's an aggravation to have to drive in a different direction to buy it. We have a tractor supply in town, but I live close to the county line so it's quicker for me to go to the next town over. That's one of the reasons I was wanting to try the Pure Balance because we can pick it up wherever we are because there is at least one walmart in every town around me. I think I'll pass on tasting it. Although I will say that the wet food actually looks like real food instead of that glob that usually comes out of a can. I've been mixing in the little tubs with their dry food and they eat it up.

We do Pedigree for our Golden and now mix a little bit of the soft in there for him. He is so spoiled.

We used Taste of the Wild a while but when we switched to 4heath (cheaper anyway and good stuff) my dog's gas went away.

Currently feeding IAMS, thought about trying her out on Blue Buffalo Wilderness-anyone here ever tried it? (I mean your dogs ) OK-maybe comfortablynumb has!

4health, blue buffalo and taste of the wild are made by the same plant for TSC, the ingredients are slightly different. Some have no grain and soy, other shave no grain or soy. Some have only meat and legumes (peas and root veggies).
So it depends on what ingredients you want with those 3 choices and what you want to pay.

I'm thinking I want to go with a food that is grain free. I will research the other two you mentioned. Seems like grain is pumped into everything these days... Just the other day my feedman was telling me how much tonnage of soybean meal is used at a fish farm he just visited...Yuck! Just not natural! When is the last time you saw little soybeans swimming for their lives in the ocean?!

4Health has grain and gives my friend’s Boston terrier gas. DD’s dog can’t eat Blue Buffalo. They both switched to TOTW. I noticed, though, that the Boston did not do well with the red bag of TOTW. I am guessing that it is the meat (can’t remember which meat it is, bison?).

I fed both my dogs (labradore and karakachan) TOTW for about 6 months when they started acting like it didn't taste right. I then switched to 4Health but they didn't like that. It has been a very slow process of trying different kibble for these dogs.
I was feeding them raw every morning until Cujo started wanting to guard his ...all day long...instead of eating it; and Valentina would not touch her kibble (no matter what brand) but would hold out for raw. This became quite expensive for me; so I took a week and weaned them both off the raw foods. Now I can tell their interest in the kibble has peaked and Valentina is starting to put on some weight, which I like. I'm purchasing a "Chicken Soup" from Southern States for their kibble and, though I still have quite a bit of raw chicken in their freezer, they will not get it on a daily bases as they did before.

I always fed Muenster Natural when I could get it but their distribution area was pretty limited. Best dog food I ever found. Now I understand they have free shipping so that might be an alternative.
