We've had the flat screen tv at about 18'' from the floor (the bottom edge of the flat screen). Then we moved it to about 40'' from the floor. It seems like either place is fine for viewing. (it's a smaller 36'' tv)
Have you found the best height to have your flat screen viewing, for your family room, if you have one? I'm going to be moving mine and I'm trying to come up with new choices for rearranging the room and keeping in mind I need to place the tv somewhere in the room.
I know there are hardware choices for wall mounts, which is a possibility instead of putting it on some furniture. We have a mantel over the fireplace (which is rarely used) but it is about 5 feet up, and I'm thinking it might be too high to place the tv on it.

We find it best to sit in your chair and get your eye height, then center the TV at eye height. For ours 24" is about right. We sit in recliners it is easier to look up some then to have to look down. Our monitor sits on the mantle which is 29" high. Some depends on size of room, bigger room, farther from TV the more variation, we have a small room, 11' wide....James

I sit about 10 feet from the tv.
