Please remember that dogs can't take the heat when there is no place for them to get shade and cool water.
My my best friend called yesterday in a panic. Her husband had gone home for lunch and found that their teenage daughter had left their 3 dogs outside in their outdoor run, which is supposed to only be for short potty breaks, not long times out as it is not shaded at all. The two Border Collies were panting and very hot when the hubby opened the back door, they both ran inside as soon as the hubby opened the door. He thought their elderly Rottie must be inside, since he didn't come in at that time. After searching for him inside, the hubby went back out and then found their believed boy in a major heatstroke. He couldn't get the huge dog up, so I rushed to help. The hubby had a fan going and was doing the cool water wash, but it was too late, and the dog died less than ten minutes after I arrived.
Not it only was this avoidable, it is now a nightmare the family has to live with in their memory for a long time. How heartbreaking, and how preventable. Please, keep your pets safe in the summer. Older animals should especially be cared for and concern taken with their well being on those hot days. Yesterday was the first really summer like day here, and it sure took its toll in a sad, awful way

I bought a plastic children's swimming pool. When Bambino and I are outside working, I keep it full of water so he can go cool off. I empty it a few times during the day so the water stays clean and he can also drink. Such a sad, avoidable tragedy. My chickens get frozen fruit and watermelon when it is cool. We keep all the doors and windows open in the poultry house and have a farm fan on for them. I cut the watermelon in half so it forms a cup and there is juice. It is way too much fun to watch them fight over little pieces and devour it. I keep cold water in the fridge in the barn for the Hubs, so he won't overheat. Gotta take care of ALL of the animals. LOL

That is so sad, and so unnecessary! I feel terrible for the dog and the family, but that poor kid who left the dogs outside will carry this forever!
It's a shame that even with a reminder (thank you for that) more animals will be lost this summer.
So sad.

And remember the shade/sun moves during the day. What is deep shade in the morning may be totally exposed to the sun in the afternoon.
