I was going to grease my DR Field & Brush Mower again and discovered there wasn't enough in the tube. It had not been given this type of grease since last year.
Now I cannot get the tube out of the holder. I don't know what to call these parts. The "holder" is what the silicone lubricant (I believe that is what it is called.) goes into. It has a handle that lets you pump the lubricant into those tiny holes on the mower. (There is one hole on top of the blade, one on the wheel and I'll need to look at the instructions sheet to find the others as I think there are 3-5 of them.)
So my question: Since this is a new holder, I'ld like to keep it; so how do I get the tube out of it...the tube that is bought separately and contains the grease...silicone-type grease?

If it's a caulking gun, rotate the crooked piston that presses the caulk out 180 degress. That allows you pull the piston out of the tube.

It's not a caulking gun. It is a grease gun; however, it doesn't have the long hose on it that is shown on that URL James. And when I pull the handle (at end) back out, the tube goes back inside. And when I'm holding the tube so it cannot go back inside, I cannot pull the handle back. I'm thinking it is simply stuck and I don't have enough strength to pull that thingy inside out of the empty tube.....Thus, I don't know how to get it out.
As for as the greasing points on the mower, I have the instructions manual so they will be easy to locate. Plus, I've done it so many times in the past, just looking at the instructions manual will remind me where they are...

I pull the plunger back, then push tube out, take it to my vice, tighten on the tube and pull the gun back. Other way is use a vice grip or water pump plier on the tube for more leverage....James

1. Unscrew the top cap that has the pump handle and grease outlet.
2. Pull back the plunger that is on the other end of the grease gun and lock the rod in the notch on the bottom cap.
3. Pull out the grease cartridge out from the open end.
4. Insert the new grease cartridge
5. Screw the top cap back on.
6. Release the plunger rod from the notch on the lower cap and push all the way in.
7. You may have to open the bleed valve on the top cap if the plunger does not want to go back in all the way.

Actually if you have trouble pulling empty tube out, pull back the spring loaded plunger and then slowly let it go forward, it will push out the empty tube. Then pull it back and lock it in notch to put new tube in (after removing the removable end on new tube) and screw on top, then let plunger go back. Couple or three squeezes of handle and you have grease coming out. Most grease guns can also be loaded manually with bulk grease instead of the preloaded tubes. Lot messier, but its doable, and way it used to be done.

You're all telling me to do what I've been doing; and it has not worked. When I pull the plunger back, the tube comes back into the holder. When I push the plunger back, only a small (about 2-1/2") part of the "empty" tube comes out. Pulling the plunger back again only causes the same thing to occur.

Possum I pulled the "plunger" as far as I could and let go. It had pulled the tube back into the holder and, when I let go, the tube went back out to the same length as before; and I could not pull the tube out. Then I started thinking, if the end of that plunger is stuck inside the tube, it needs to be pulled out of the tube....well duh! So I pulled the plunger again only this time I kept pulling with all my strength and .... yeah .... the plunger came farther out. When I let go this time, the empty tube shot almost all the way out. I took hold of that tube and was able to pull it the rest of the way out. I know all this is easy for you guys; but for me it was hard and I know how funny that must seem to you. So go ahead and laugh. I am! Now all I need do is get another full tube and do some greasing. I am grateful for the help you've all given. Thank you.

LOL Sheyymay, I'm one of those women who really dislike playing the "dumb card"; so won't be doing it at my age anymore than I ever did. I like being able to understand and get things done myself. If I lack the physical strength to get something done, well, that's just a fact for me and not an act.
Not at all condemning those who enjoy manipulating others. Some people actually enjoy being manipulated; so to each his (or her) own....
