I don't know where to put this; so move it if need be.
The weather here the last few days has been full of severe storms with heavy lightning and some hail with strong winds. As usual at such times I unplug my phone (an old fashioned, push button desk top) and shut down the PC. After the storm is over I plug my phone back up and turn the PC back on.
Well this time the phone gave me only a very faint dial tone sound with lots of static; and I could not call out. It's been this way now for 2 full days.
It's the only phone I have, the close neighbor is gone and it's too hot to walk miles so I turned to the internet in an attempt to let Verizon know about this problem. Spent a good half hour trying to find a way to connect with Verizon, all to no avail. Now what?
Suggestions sure would be appreciated. I'm sure there's something I can do. Just don't know what yet.

Email the neighbors if you know their email addresses and ask if they are also having phone issues and that yours is out and you'd like them to contact Verizon for you. List your address and phone number, cell or landline, and your email address. If you've already tried this: www.verizon.com/support/residential/contact-us/contactLayout.htm#Then, I'm not sure. Can you email verizon with all your contact information? Email a friend with all the pertinent information and ask them to contact Verizon for you. Important information: address, name, copper wire land line, other land line, wireless, phone number to fix, how long it's been out, your email (for verizon's information to contact you back). (maybe your verizon account number)

I had a similar problem once and when I asked the repairman what was wrong, he said that the phone line was grounded. I didn't ask him if it were at the pole or somewhere in between. In my case, I could dial out or receive calls but so much static that it was useless.

Feather, thanks for the URL. I'm still going to make efforts to contact Verizon via internet as soon as the Sabbath is over. All I found thus far was Q&A or links to nothing pertinent to my situation. Don't have neighbors' emails.
Martin, at one time a few years ago I was told the same thing, i.e. the phone line was grounded. Still the problem turned out to be on Verizon lines and not internal to my housing/phone.
