Just curious, those of you with multiple rabbits, how close do you keep your bucks and does? I have a buck currently housed between two does. One of the does has a litter of four on her. Anyway, the buck seems to have a bit of an attitude. He isn't aggressive, but he doesn't like being touched or approached. Would he possibly calm down and return to his previous, calm, self if he were removed from the presence of the does? Little background, I just aquired him a couple of days ago.
Wondering if I shouldn't rearrange the rabbits' living accomidations and keep all of the bucks in one area, and all of the does in a different area. Then put them together in a secluded neutral cage for breeding, then return each to its own cage afterwords.
What say you??

Typically I have the bucks hanging on one side of the barn and the does in a double cage hanging on the other side. Three foot, more or less, walk space between the cages. However, we currently have two bucks housed on the doe side. One we knew about we're just out of buck cages right now. Yesterday we discovered the other buck when we tried to breed "her." It may have scarred my ds but I think he'll pay more attention when he sexes bunnies in the future. LOL! Anway the one buck we did nkow about is next to doe and her kits, my avatar picture. They're his and he doesn't seemed bothered by it at all. Actually he's probably the friendliest and most playful buck we've had. Btw, we are going to correct the buck population this afternoon or tomorrow.

Also we don't have a neutral breeding cage. We take doe to buck's cage. You said this a new rabbit for you? May still be getting acustomed to his new home. Then again it may just be his personality. I do prefer keeping does and bucks distanced but wuen we lived in town we only three cages and had no choice but to keep a buck housed next to a doe. May not uave been ideal but he managed...adapt and overcome.

As I build the new rabbit area, I think I will arrange it so all of the bucks are on one side of the room, all the does on the other. Possibly have grow out pens in between.
