That might not be a good description. Have metal wall hanging want to paint in layers. Colors appear to be bronze, copper-something else. Don't understand how to do this or determine what colors are actually used. Can anyone help?

I don't know if you are asking this question or something similar. How to put a finish on an old veneer that you want to look like wood grain? Clean up the base (or veneer), paint with one color, let dry, then paint with a second darker color, and using a paint brush and your fingers, or a feather, and make the wet darker paint into grain lines and knot holes. When dried, coat with a clear coating. This will give you a fake wood grain finish. Does that help?
