We are moving our garden after about 15 years. When we cleared the land, there was an over abundance of black walnut trees. We have added compost each year and have a good base built up now. We have recently cleared more land that gets better sun exposure. My husband is in the process of bickering up the good dirt, adding more compost and spreading it out to start new. I am excited. Here is the progress thus far.

That's quite a pile of dirt. Looks like you have another helper too! So are you moving it to a totally diffferent spot or just adding to the one you have? Will it be larger than before?

That's my grandson. He is a helpy helper. He he he I think we are making it the same size. In the 2nd picture, you can see how big it was. Not super big. We have to make it deepbecause if the silly walnut trees that were there. We are gonna try a new thing with strawberries, too. Hubby is going to make a fence on one side only and out gutters up on top. We will plant the strawberries in there so we aren't standing on our heads to pick them.

We are moving the garden about 30 feet to the north of the existing one. No trees there so the sun can get through. When we bought our place, we didn't have grass that grew because there were too many trees. We cut 60 trees out of the front yard alone. It's been a long process.

I'd cry if I had to move my garden. I put in trellises last year for the tomatoes and pole beans...I have the beds all dug up and the fence and gates with their arbors.....
Will the strawberries go through a winter planted in gutters? I've seen them done like that and I wondered about it. I wanted to do them in a 55 gallon barrel but I'd have to surround it all in frost fabric, then a layer of straw and then another layer of frost fabric. That's a lot more work than bending over to pick. Until it's time to pick, that is.

I will be happy to be able to harvest more veggies this year. I am looking forward to that for sure. Hubby said that he was planning on 24 x 24 feet for the garden. As far as the strawberries go, I don't know. We may do something that we can remove and cover with hay..... Maybe deck boxes?
