www.kvue.com/story/news/state/2015/04/06/400-pound-gator-found-in-groves-backyard/25395089/
People let children swim and play in bayous and rivers where these creatures live. My dad used to get me to help him seine in the Neches river for trotline bait. Once we caught the same water moccasin three times. I have never seined in muddy freshwater since.
I don't know exactly how it works but dangerous animals seem to leave stupid people alone. Maybe they just figure there's no sport in taking them.

The link doesn't work for me...but it's sufficient to envision a 400 pounder. Eeeeegads !!!
I'm with you in yielding right-of-way during some encounters. One being...a mountain-lion [cougar...puma...] in our back yard. That was...er...exciting....

Whoa! Up here the biggest thing we have to worry about is coyotes and they only take out those little dustmop dogs anyway. Most dangerous animal is the politician tho.

I used to run my dog along a creek in Texas until I found out about the Gators and the fact that dog is a real enticing snack.

Maybe the "Darwin" people just don't taste as good as the others... I would stroke out if I stumbled on a gator in the yard....or anywhere where there wasn't some kind of fence between him and me.

I was at a company facility in Louisiana a few years ago and a gator about four feet long showed up in the parking lot. One of those Cajun guys had him wrapped up and thrown in the back of a pickup in about three minutes. I suspect it was going to be dinner.
