motdaugrnds, from your description, I had pictured each corner being made up of an "L" shaped piece of fabric, and you are asking how to sew that L into the other pieces. The L not being created by two pieces at the corner, but being one piece that 'wraps around' the corner. Correct? Unfortunately, I don't know how to sew that. Maybe something related to paper piecing? Have you looked for any paper piecing tutorials?

dw , your block arrived (I think two weeks ago? Time has gotten away from me). I like the pattern, its one I considered for this fabric How is everyone doing on their blocks? We have a little over three weeks left before the deadline. I have to confess that I picked out a pattern for mine right after the sign-up started, but that's as far as I've gotten. My sewing machine got rather buried over the summer, and I decided rather than just shoving the sewing machine area clear, I should just get the whole sewing room organized so I had plenty of room to work. Two sessions (in the past two weeks) and 5 hours later. . . I can't believe how much stuff had gotten 'stuffed' into that room and adjoining closet by family members. UGH! Still not to the sewing machine yet, but at least the closet is now clean and organized, and the room is 2/3 done. Hopefully this week I will actually get to sit down and sew!

I don't have a photo and really don't want to let anyone see my block before it is completed; so I know I'm asking you all to suggest while in the dark somewhat. If you can picture ONLY the border which is surrounding the block already created. That border being a solid color on all four sides of the created block. Then picture an "L" shaped piece of material of a different color than the border with both parts of the "L" being the same length. Now add four of those "L" shaped pieces of material to the border, one at each corner with the corners of the existing block fitting snuggly at the inner corner (where both sides of that "L" shape meet) of those 4 small pieces of material. Then at each end of that "L" shaped piece of material is the border going all around the completed block. I don't know how better to draw a pic of this with words....and I've not found a tutorial video that speaks to this. Now the problem is my not wanting a seam in that "L" shaped piece of material at each corner of the existing block....The only seam I'ld like to have are the two seams that actually join the "L" shaped little piece to the border. I think I see what you are saying, I am just not sure it is possible! The L shape is probably going to have to be in two pieces...

motdaugrnds, I think I get what you are saying now, but agree with Melissa that I am not sure it is possible. You may have to settle for putting one seam, in the corner, to connect the pieces to form the L. Trying to do a set-in seam you may encounter having a pucker in the corner. I had plans to start on my block this weekend but now my sewing machine has decided to not work. Threads keep breaking, no matter what kind I put in. Have done all the usual stuff, taking it apart, cleaning, oiling, new needle. Will try again tonight and tomorrow.

Not sure if this will help motdaughgds. Instead of creating L’s, walk around the block. It sounds like there will be two pieces on each side of the block. Sew the two pieces together, sew on the one side. Do the same with the opposite side. The other two sides should come together for you. Find a tutorial for Courthhouse Steps and you will see what I mean.

Thanks Maura. I did go over and look at those courthouse steps. They do not speak to the issue I have in that there are not any "L" shaped pieces rounding corners.
Anyway, I finished my block yesterday and placed it in the mail to Kris. She should be receiving it shortly.
Krisinmi please remember I'm a beginner and, though I'm not totally satisfied with my block (as last year I was not satisfied either), still I'm learning. This year I've learned what type of design NOT to do.

My block is finished. I will get it in the mail Thursday or Friday.
After I finished it I saw that one piece got turned the wronged way so I named it "Oops".

My bad. Mea culpa. I made my block, a 16 square patch, but moved it with other sewing stuff to the big house. I cannot find it. Driving me crazy, but I cannot find it. When it reappears I will send it to the winner.
So sorry.

I got my two blocks mailed today. Sorry for the delay. My receipt says you should get it Saturday, the 12th, and I have a tracking number if we need it. If it does get delayed and you don't get it until after the drawing, that's fine. I just like to take part.

I've been absent alot this quilt, due to varying factors (computer probs, internet being intermittent at home, just plain busy, etc, etc) and I really am sorry that I haven't been able to post regular updates. This quilt's deadline ( tomorrow!!) has just snuck right up on me. Meanwhile, blocks have been showing up in my mailbox! It is always such a treat to open the envelopes and see all the beautiful creations! Here is a list of the blocks I have received as of Saturday: dw , motdaugrnds , mzgarden , calicokatie1 , @used2bcool13 , Billie , mollymckee My mailman was running late today, but I think he's gone through by now. I will run out and check when I go to shut my chickens in at dark. If anyone hasn't mailed their block yet, don't worry, you can still send it. Even if you miss the drawing, please send your block in and I will make sure it gets to whomever is our lucky winner this time. If all works out computer and internet-wise, I will post the winner tomorrow night.

And, sadly, mine will probably be the last to arrive, I'm afraid. Sorry, but I actually need a road map to find my quilt room at the moment - been so long since I've been in it due to this rural festival thing I've been involved with organising. But come Sunday, when it is all over and done with (well, maybe Monday - Sunday will be blob-out day, I suspect), I'll get right onto it and will have it in the mail next week. If, by that stage you've done the draw, I'll send it directly to the winner.
Am really looking forward to seeing what we've all done with #2 blocks.

I'm finally online and have drawn a winner from the blocks received. I think you've all been in suspense long enough (really sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday), so without further delay, our lucky winner is. . .
