What is it about little baby chicks that make even the most seasoned owner all goofy and giddy?
I decided to turn over my flock this year. I have a turkey hen setting and was waiting to see what her hatch was like before I decided on how many chickens to hatch out. In the meantime, a friend of mine decided to throw some eggs in her incubator. Now she's decided to give them all to me. Seventeen little babies just hatched out yesterday and today, and I'm simply wiggly with excitement!
This isn't my first flock, or my second or third. Shoot, I can't even remember how many there have been. You'd think a person would get jaded. But oh my! Those cute little bits of fuzz streaking around the brooder, with their toddler squabbles and toddler naps, oh! They're just so CUTE!!!
I'm going to make her take some of my turkeys. That way I won't drown in poultry this winter.
What is it about those babies? Please tell me I'm not the only nut.

Ha! I'm so glad I'm not alone! You think someone will give us an intervention?

My name is Wendy & I am addicted to cute, fuzzy poultry chicks! I am going tomorrow to feed that addiction some more. Rural King was supposed to get another order of chicks in!

No, you are not alone. No matter how many years I have had chickens, I still love the babies. LOL
Right now I am staring at hatching eggs, keeping my fingers crossed. They "should" hatch out next week.
On the 26th I am picking up some blue quail d'Anver chicks from a good breeder. Some time that same week, I have some Lavender Ameraucana Bantam chicks coming. And if that isn't enough...
I just ordered up some full sized Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs, now that Hissy Fit is broody again. These eggs are the darkest blue I have ever seen. Also coming from a private breeder. Hissy Fit, will raise those.
Oh ya.. and the Welsummer and Blue Cooper Maran pullets I have on order. Good grief... I am going to need another hen house!

I love baby chicks, too! I really love my Keets when they hatch. If yu have a bunch of them, it just cracks me up watching them play and then literally all of a sudden, they all, at the exact same time, sink down and go to sleep. Keets will sleep stretched out on their sides with their legs out behind them, I have walked inn more than once and thought I had dead babies, only for them to hop up and start yaking the second their hear my voice! Silly babies:-)
