Forecasters are sending chills down some spines with a prediction that much of the northern half of the United States could see frigid weather next week similar to life-threatening lows the polar vortex brought to parts of the country in 2014.
Anticipation of a freezing blast began to build this week when weather maps and forecast models showed similarities between next week's system and one that developed in January 2014.
Thankfully the good Lord will be staying with His beloved children in central and west Texas at that time and the worst effects should miss that area.

I'll take it.
We didn't get much snow yet, so the cold temps will make some great ice for fishing this season.

The pond is frozen over. The snow on the deck rail looks about 3”. My bedroom window won’t close all the way. Window man was supposed to be out Thursday last, now will be Tuesday. Brrr.

do you know how happy I am that others even know of the polar vortex ? I have been using this to know what will work or fail in my garden for a long time more sun activity means a stronger and smaller vortex at the pole, less sun activity means that the cold leaks out of the polar areas...
have not had a crop loss from when I started using this idea.

Tomorrows high will be just 69°. And Monday's low will be 33°. But we will endure because we are sturdy folk. And of course it never hurts to be God's favorites.

This morning hose I left out running to a stock tank was almost frozen. Luckily it still ran a trickle and by evening it had totally thawed and I filled the tanks. Learned my lesson and rolled it up tonight. One more night and the weather is supposed to return to its usual 45 degrees during the day and 35 degrees during the night winter temps.
I had forgotten about cold as the last two years had been consistently above freezing. But then the gnats were also worse than normal. So with this freeze I can look forward to a bug free year ahead even with our summer average of 70 degrees. Best result- from a poem sent to me years ago:
I do not like ice. I find it displeasing except for the thought of a billion flies freezing.
I do hope for some snow. Just because it is so pretty and never overstays its welcome. I just need to to dig out my snow boots....
