I guess they don't "Really" understand....unless they are old and they "get" that once a year something "special" happens-haha. Other than that I think love is love to them.I'm sure with some pet lovers every week or month has a present of some sort.Of course they feel the attention and fun,no matter what time of year it is. We give our cats and dogs wrapped toys to rip up while we open our gifts though and they always have a Great time. It's often a camera worthy time to catch some very cute pictures of them too.

Yep, ours get presents in their own Santa Sacks. Our dog, in particular, knows exactly what hers is. We have a musical ornament that plays "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" and she gets all excited when she hears it because that's the signal that she gets to have something from the SS. I know it's just a learned response, but it's fun to think that they can share in the celebrations.

We always have a gift for the dog. We even make a special warm mash with cut up fruit for the chickens for Christmas. A canned food for the barn cats. Nobody gets left out.
Then again, I have been told that maybe I'm a little ..... excessive? I think not!

We do something for all our animals. In fact, when our kids have pets, we've given them a little something too - sometimes it's just a bone I've saved out for them, etc. but yep, every(warm)body gets something. because it makes me happy.

Every Christmas our pup gets his new fluffy beddie. He's got some night time ritual! He scratches & fluffs up his bed, so it's just the way he wants. He also gets a new bone . He's a very special "little boy." Part of our family, for sure.

Sometimes, but not usually. I mean, honestly, they live in the moment, and any day is Christmas if you throw a dog a nice bone to gnaw on. That said, I'm thinking of getting Kebab an ifetch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPeeOhn81v0

I think our dogs hate christmas and the week either side, as they are left home alone a lot more than they normaly are. And no they don't get anything, there's no point giving chews while we're out as neither of them touch them.

Is it bad to also say that our pets get their own plates of holiday food as well?! The dogs get them, the cats sometimes do, depending on how annoying they were during cooking, I tried cranberry sauce in the horses' bowls once but they thought I was mad, and the chickens get yummy leftover plate scrapings after the meal.
Their presents are usually cheap bones, a cheap bag of cat treats, the horses got a cheap bag of treats, which were needed this year, since they hate peppermints, freak health conscious horses that they are.
They also all have stockings... though when we got the barn cats (Ha! Barn?! Now they are full fledged indoor/outdoor, but in most all day every day in winter cats lol)... when we got them, adding 3 extra stockings seemed crazy, so they have one that simply says 'barn cats.' The dogs and horses each have their own, my old house cat I had 22+ years from childhood had her own stocking, which I put away after she passed (as we do with all stockings from those whom have passed). I think there are 10+ stockings hung, since my daughter's best friend also has one here.

The horses and goats get apples and carrots late Christmas Eve. The dogs are getting a tunnel and they will get special dinner and treats as will the cats.

I should have added, that is all the special human-like treatment our animals get. Other than being allowed to sleep on the couch and beds with us- the dogs and cats, not the horses and chickens, lol.

My dog (s) gets raw meat and bones every day, lives in the country with woods and a pond, has friend from down the road who occasionally visits, has a squeaky toy inside, and used to herd sheep (what joy!). What more can one ask for?
Okay, one year the standard poodle ate all of the low hanging candy canes off the Christmas tree. He had really great breath that day.

I can't help but wonder and ask if the overload of peppermint helped the odor on the other end? A dog we used to have did that one year as well. Except he ate regular ones too. We still have a couple of the half chewed ones on the tree and call them 'Pharaoh's ornaments,' obviously after the offending chewer.
