My cats keep trying to take bits of veg tops from the compost. I wouldn't mind, but not much ends up there that is really edible. Spoiled, soft, or oniony. If you grow cat grass for your cats, what seed do you get, and where? I'm not paying $4 for a 3" pot at the pet store. Thanks.

Could you just grow regular grass seed? Or even make a chunk of sod to pot and bring inside and put into a sunny window for them (if that was your intent)?
Our cats and dogs have no problems finding random patches of longer, finer grass outside to gnaw on when they want, considering we live on 6ish acres. They actually seem to have picked the favored spots which have grass that we keep longer, i.e. don't cut it at all since its location doesn't matter that it's long.

I got a packet of cat grass seed from the local garden store around here last year. I haven't planted the seeds yet cause I forgot I had gotten them. Thanks for the reminder!
