Our Corgi, Kebab, was born in Montana in October, so he LOVES snow. I mean, he is never happier than when he's dashing through the snow. Yesterday we went on a hikey-poo for New Year's Day up the Dosewallips River Road, and he was happy as a clam. However, I began to worry about his little paws. If he got frostbite, he'd not even know, because they'd be anaesthetized by the snow and ice, wouldn't they? So how do I know when he's been running around on snow and ice long enough/too long?

I've known dog sledders in Alaska to use these kinds of booties on their dogs. link

My big ol' lab used to have ice build up between his toes, but labs have a lot of webbing there.
