I don't know which of us is LD for bucket: Me or the calf.
I've been trying to train him to the bucket. I put my hand in there, and he'll try to suckle my fingers, but he really struggles to get the milk down in a consistent manner. My poor hand is all scraped/chewed up, and he gets the food, but won't go for it without my fingers down in the milk.
Did I start too soon (he's about 2 weeks old, and we've been at this for three days)? Is there a technique I should know about?
Any suggestions are most welcome.

Yeah, he does seem to do better when I hold my fingers a little apart. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help!

Put the bucket in there and leave it, it will drink when it is hungry. Some can be pretty headstrong. Of course this is only if the calf is real strong and doing well. Calves learn to drink water on their own. Keep checking the calfs nose and mouth, it needs to be warm, a sickly calf needs to suckle so they need a nipple....James
