This new year starts January 28th.
The Chinese term for rooster is more generic, as it applies to barnyard fowl of either sex.
On New Year's Day, Chinese families gather, clean their houses and sweep away bad-fortune. So I guess many of will be celebrating with our Asian friends.

We sometimes get coin adverts in the mail and I came across some really pretty coins/bars celebrating the year of the rooster. 'Course since I'm chicken obsessed these got my attention! Come to find out I was born in a year of the rooster - which I thought was kinda cool and interesting... Figures... I have such a soft spot in my heart for all animals - even those cantankerous roosters. I have way too many but am afraid to give them away unless I know they will be going to a good forever home... Sigh... ~Mari
ETA: I'm not into astrology, what not, but found it amusing that my DH is a "snake" according to the Chinese zodiac and is "most compatible" with me...
