Belgian d'Anvers. Split to Millie pullets with two Millie hens in the new breeding pen. Young rooster also split to Millie, was hatched in Dec 2016, so still growing up. The two Pullets hatched March 2016, are the last of Bob Whites offspring, the hen is the super good Millie I bought from Justin. Even though the Pullets are only split to Millie, they are starting to spot out. Will be happy if I only get 25% full Millie offspring. Not the most fast way to get the Millie Fleur color, but the only option open to me. (I hope to get a White Quail breeding pen set up in the next month or so) (annnd.... I have some Belgian d'Uccle eggs in the incubator) Rooster is still too young to do anything,,,, couple more months I will start collecting eggs. He is just two months old. Having some fun dancing around. LOL Young Pullet, only split to Millie but showing some spots. A very good sign. The other split to Millie Pullet. This is Claire, a full Millie Fleur Belgian d'Anver. Am hoping to get at least a few full Millie Offspring like her. Anyone else raising bantam breeds?

Think one of my mutts is half banty does that count?.. came from a small egg, lays small eggs is half the size of the others. I can't personaly see the point in them, I want a decent amount of sensible sized eggs and that's about it from a chicken.

It counts. I have my big hens, the work horses. But there is just something about the friendly and endearing personalities of the bantams you just don't get in the big breeds. And because they are so small.. I can have 10+ times as many chickens. LOL Children always go for the mini fried eggs too.

We had bantams when I was in high school. They were fun to watch. Used to walk around the property in a little train. I have a few silkie girls now, but now bantams.

Hey bergere , Love the pics! I've never had bantams but have often dreamed of having the little tykes... I'm not even sure if I'm going to get chicks this year. Just so afraid of MORE ROOSTERS. And I'm not hot on any of the sex-link breeds. Question for you - one of the things that scares me is that you can't get sexed bantam chicks. SO, if I ended up with a few roosters - are they just as much trouble as the standard breeds? Fighting among themselves, wearing out their favorite gals, etc... ~Mari

SO, if I ended up with a few roosters - are they just as much trouble as the standard breeds? Fighting among themselves, wearing out their favorite gals, etc... ~Mari Usually know within a couple of weeks who will be a rooster or pullet. So far, knock on wood, I have found good homes for any extra roosters. With the d'Anvers, some roosters are known to be aggressive. Those I have been culling. I only pick the most gentle, to both people and their hens, offspring and so on, to pass on their line. Even if a d'Anver rooster gets mad at you, at 18 ounces... most they will do is bounce off and end up on their back. I just laugh and laugh..... Then they never do it again. Only had that happen once. Really depends on the breeding line, in what ever variety you get. Some people are like me, and very strict about the temperament of their Roosters. Any aggressive rooster is culled. My Blue Wheaten Ameraucana's from Kat's line, roosters all get along. Have a number of bantam d'Anver rooster growing up together right now... and if they are in a male only group, they don't tend to fight. They hatched out Jan 6th 2017
