I love playing with colors, swirls, and pretty soaps, but I also want to keep my products as natural as possible. I've used a lot of different natural colorants - clays, botanicals, etc. - and I do like them. However, I have yet to find any that produce really vibrant colors. They're all muted and sometimes quite dull. Does anyone have any suggestions for vibrant natural colorants? All of my soaps are made with goat milk, so even white can be a challenge if I'm not careful with the temperatures.

I think you need to go with artificial dyes for color. I do use ultra marines & oxides and get nice colors but they aren't neon bright like the dyes. I have a list of natural colorants used for CP soap and there are pictures on this page from Susanne's Crafty Corner

That's why my soaps are a little boring stillearnin. I would love to find something 'all natural' that would give me those bright colors....but there just isn't anything.

I've used french green clay for dull green, iron oxide for dull pink, alkanet for purple, cocoa powder for brown, but the only bright color I've gotten was turmeric yellow. Micas will be the most natural source of a bright color you can get.

Indigo works good for blues. Mine are a light blue but I've seen some deep blues from other soapers.

Cyndi, I followed your link for natural colorants, thanks! I have a question, tho. Being a newbie to soaping - why does it say n/a in the third column for several of the colorants? Does that mean you just add until you get the color you want?

@seraphgirljudym,
I downloaded the chart of natural colorants about 15+ years ago from missmarymac. When that page was no longer available, I re-created the chart on my website to preserve the knowledge.
I always thought that the n/a in the 3rd column was probably ones she hadn't experimented herself.
