Wasn't sure if I should post this or not, not after the Fantails. But... these Pigeon Parents are still feeding the pair, despite me holding them and such. Glad I double checked the leg bands the other day. One had fallen off one, the other, worked its way to high up. Nest was disgusting, so I scraped it out and put some clean bedding in their bowl. The happy beeps, coming from them after I changed their bedding was really cute. Nice to see they are starting to get feathers. Being very careful how I handle them. (They are so ugly, they are cute. LOL ) Parents enjoying the 41' long flight cage. (knock on wood, the Creme Lucernes are being good parents so far)

Don't worry about touching the babies. We handle ours almost every day. They adapt to you and are less nervous. With most of our adults, just have to reach out and grab them to check them. When I was handling the flock, I could take almost any bird and place it on my shoulder and it would stay there. We've bought birds that were so hand-shy that they virtually panicked when trying to catch them. Handling when young eliminates later stress.
A pigeon nest will eventually have a solid rim of manure but there won't be any where the birds are sitting. The babies automatically back up to defaecate so it's outside of where they lay. They may end up with a little on their feet but otherwise the rest of their body will be clean. We only clean the nest boxes once a year and that's at the end of the breeding season.

I must have lazy Squeaks, because the manure was piled up In the nest. I have to try to keep the flies down, hence the scraping. Live near two cattle ranchers, even with using Fly Predators, is always a challenge.
Will have to handle these young ones every day, their parents are pretty wild and I want them as hand tame as my past Canaries and Finches.
