I had been putting, No Pick, around his comb and beard for a week, because the hens were over grooming him again.... so I "thought" the slightly blue comb was due to that. He was acting fine. Week later, saw he had scale on his legs for the first time ever. I keep their housing clean and dusted..... but ok. Started treating that. Everything seemed fine, couple weeks later his comb was more blue, so I treated with some antibiotics... 2 days later. He died. All his hens were fine and still fine. So I am starting to think it was heart related? First set of 8 eggs hatched, had another set in the incubator but only 2 of 6 hatched. I have the rest of his eggs under two different sets of broody hens, due from 2 weeks to 20 days. If none of them end up being the quality I need, I will give up breeding d'Uccles. Ever since I got back into them since moving here, it has been one thing after another. Couple of his offspring, from the first batch. The newest ones that just hatched, One is black..... Buff and Buff Mottled hens, one Blue mottled..... it must be from the Blue Mottled hen. Dexter was a Splash Millie. First time for a black chick. Will post about the shipped Belgian d'Anver eggs in another thread.

Thank you Connor and Shelly.
I hope so too... but.... if they don't. Will give up raising d'Uccles, as it has been an never ending fight to keep going with them.

Sorry hear about Dexter. At least you have some chicks to distract you. Maybe one of the chicks can take his dad's place.

I hope so Cm22. Time will tell though, as I haven't had much luck in the past hatches. Today's photo.... and still have the teen-aged scruffies... The 2nd hatch, only two hatched, a Buff and this tiny Black, who goes by the name of the little stinker. LOL His leg and foot feathers are wet because he had to go play in the water as I was putting it in his brooder. He is playing with the shavings too. (Have two more sets of broody hens on the last of Dexter's eggs, will see if i get a better hatch from them)
