I'm in the process of adding pine plank walls to my basement. I've gotten the laundry area mostly finished, and now I'm thinking ahead about the decorating. I had just repainted the block wall when DH suggested the pine walls so I'm going to leave it alone for now, but if you have any color suggestions that would look good with the pine walls please feel free to suggest them because my craft room is next and it has two block walls. We may eventually stud the block walls and add pine too, but for now I'm concentrating on getting the pine up before I add more costs.
As you can see in the picture I added a shelf over the washer and dryer just for pretty stuff. Some of it is practical too, the one jar is for change that I find in pockets. The glass bowl is what I've been calling the Lego bowl, because it's amazing how many I find in my son's clothes but it's basically for anything that isn't change. I'm very happy with the way to shelf looks right now, but my question is does the decor look okay with the pine walls. My original plan for the basement decorating was to make it look like a vacation cabin with bears and such but as much as I love woodland animals I think I would get tired of them real quick if I did the whole basement. I prefer the "rustic farmhouse" look, but does it work? I'm not worried about decorating my craft room because it will have to be mostly storage - mason jars, chicken wire and metal bins. The wall decor will be things that I've made or will be making like embroidery, cross stitch or quilts. I have no clue what color to paint the block walls, but I can always paint it the same color as the laundry area. That cream color really brightened it up in there and since there are no windows in my room I have to be careful of painting it too dark. So onto the problem room...the bathroom. I've spent several hours looking for ideas online. I think I've been hung up on the idea that it's a bathroom. I know that sounds funny, but there's no rule that says it has to scream bathroom and that is what I've been thinking. I just remembered that I have this picture that hung in my granny and papaw's house. I used to sit at the kitchen table and daydream about being inside the pictures. Do y'all think it would be okay to hang it in the bathroom? I already bought a new shower curtain, hooks and soap dispenser when I was thinking "cabin". I think the shower curtain is okay, but should I get new hooks and what about the dispenser. I really like the dispenser! Help?!

I think that is a great picture for the bathroom, and I like everything else you have chosen also.
Your laundry room looks great. Not that you really need to, but if you ever want to, they sell a paint that looks like stone when it dries that you could paint over your pipes. We did this on a bathroom remodel job that Cale did at our community center. There was no way to hide the pipe, so we decorated it!

There are also hammered metallics that look pretty good.

Do you know the name of the paint? I hate those pipes, but until we box around everything I'm stuck with them.
ETA: Nevermind, just saw your edit. lol

There are probably other brands. We just have Lowes here so that is what we used. There are other color options as well.

Love the painting and yes I would definitely put it in the bathroom. It'll come together awesomely with the shower curtain & the soap dispenser...it's so unique, use it!

Thanks y'all. Melissa , my Lowe's doesn't show that they carry the paint, but Walmart carries the Rustoleum version of the same stuff and cheaper too. I think I'll run and get some because that will definitely improve the look of the pipes. I was thinking this color but it's not in stock at my local Walmart. Oh my goodness, I just realized that I bet my brother bought all the cans they had when he was repainting a fire pit I gave him.

Looks great to me KM, the only thing I can suggest is a rack of deer horns, not a mounted head...just the horns.

Looks great girl........I love the pine wall and it brings the feel of country into the home, the wall color is perfect for the laundry room, ( Melissa, had a great idea for the pipes ) As for the bathroom HANG the picture!!!!!! it will go great with the shower curtain and dispenser, I would look for wood looking shower curtain rings instead of the shiny silver looking rings, but all the pieces work well together... As far as your craft room I would do the pine as you did there in the laundry room, some walls in the pine and some painted (just breaks it up and pops out at you) but of course a light pink/green/or blue would be better for the craft room, the nice thing about pine is it is neutral and goes with any color

I had that same picture! I bought it from a Home Interior party back in the early 70"s. I had it for about 15 years before giving it away. I always loved it!

Every single wall in my bathroom has a water themed photograph or etching on it. My favorite is a hippo in water, looking out with only the top part of the head above water.
The only issue with artwork in a bathroom is making it moisture resistant or being prepared to discard it when it mildews. I have a pretty good timer on a the bathroom fan so it runs after leaving but a bathroom is a wet place.

Got my spray paint for the pipes, found it at Rural King when we went to get tomato plants tonight. Hopefully I'll get the pipes done tomorrow since I'll be home alone. I hate painting when my family is here because of the fumes. shellymay , I have the pine cone hooks but I'm not sure about those. I think I'll use those until I find something I like better. They don't really stand out enough for anyone to notice them. And I was thinking a green in my craft room. But I always think of green first, just ask my DH. patty , I didn't know that the picture was home interior! Unfortunately mine's pretty faded, but still pretty with lots of memories. here to stay , Thanks for the tip about moisture. Fortunately this bathroom is rarely used anymore so not as much moisture as the upstairs baths. I couldn't even tell you the last time someone took a shower down there. We mainly use it when we are outside because it's quicker to run into the basement then upstairs.

Unless you are going for a very formal look, pine always looks good, IMO. It really brightens the laundry room wit it's light color, but is more interesting than paint. Now you have me thinking about giving my future laundry room some punch.

It looks great! I like it so much that I would do the craft room the same way as it would really brighten things up. I'm jealous!

Oh, that picture did indeed bring back memories for me! Was a youngster in the 70's and we had that picture hanging on the wall in our family room - always loved it. Well, after many moves after that - no more picture. Not too many years ago I stopped at a garage sale and they had that same picture for sale and I HAD to have it - for some reason it holds special memories for me and I felt blessed to find it... Perhaps it reminds me of my childhood and simpler/innocent days... Very nice job KyMama... You are something else - you go girl! Always enjoy your posts/pics...

She bought that picture at a Home Interior party back in the early seventies. In fact, it is in our den right now. I think She loves it too.

It's supposed to be raining for the next couple of days so I'm hoping to get my craft room walls done. At least finish getting the pine up and prime the block walls. I'm leaning towards a nice cream color for the block walls, but I still may end up with a pale green. After all, it's my room and green makes me happy. And the color will probably depend on what I decide to do with the furniture and that's where I need y'alls help.
I've been debating about whether to use furniture I already have or buy new stuff for the craft room. My DH wouldn't care one bit if I bought new stuff, but I can't seem to talk myself into it. Seems silly to spend more money when I have things that will work. The problem is that none of it matches. I'm going to post some pictures and I beg of you to ignore the mess. I've been shoving things in corners and other rooms until I get this room situated. Once I get all my craft supplies gathered together, half of the basement will be empty. lol
This is a kitchen table that I cut down years ago to use as a desk. I have the section I cut off because it makes a great shelf over the desk. I don't know if you can tell in the picture, but it is a dark brown wood with green painted trim, the legs that aren't in the picture, are also green. I like these colors, but no sentimental value to it so I could change it if need be. I do like that it's nice and worn in, all kinds of scratches and such.
I have two of these bookcases. They were my daddy's and I plan on using them just like in the picture - for my yarn. I was thinking these would be okay with the desk because they are at least brown - even if they aren't the same color or wood. Although these could be painted too if y'all think painting everything the same color would pull the room together better. (You see that ugly brown paneling behind it, it's on the chopping block too. By the time I get done my basement is going to look like one of those vacation cabins we pay too much for in Tennessee. Maybe we can have some staycations and save some money.)
And then there's this shelf, very utilitarian with it's black metal and fake wood shelves. This will definitely be getting painted, but how?
I also have a shelf that my daddy built for my son to hold those plastic shoe boxes. I'm thinking of putting it between the two yarn shelves. It's a little shorter but great for storage. It's John Deere green and black so I'll need to come up with some other color to paint it. And speaking of paint, I love the look of chalk paint. Here's a picture of the available paint colors with little red arrows pointing out the ones I like. Of course, that might change once I see the colors in the store instead of online, that darker one might be too green. I like that the desk is two colors, so maybe a brown with the lighter green? Or just a darker brown on the furniture with the pine and pale green walls? Too many options and decisions!!!
It probably doesn't matter but I have my singer treadle machine in this room too, just in case that helps with colors. I've thought about painting everything black too, but that seems too harsh. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad with the chalk paint? Oh my gosh, the more I type the more confused I get. lol And don't forget I want to use galvanized metal, chicken wire and maybe even a few wooden crates in my decorating. Also will have mason jars with small stuff in them. I guess just think country.
I just went to hobbylobby.com and all the metal is half off this week. Eek! Here's a picture for inspiration,

I would paint everything white then use the colors you like as accent colors. Although I love natural wood, I think for a basement room and with the different pieces you have white would pull everything together so nicely.

I don't need to google, I have that top picture saved on Pinterest. lol I was just sitting here thinking about all the furniture and appliances that are down there since I just pinned a bathroom picture that I like the look of. The bathroom vanity is white, my pantry cabinet is white, freezer and washer and dryer are white. And all that looks fine with the pine walls. I'm rethinking my metal color choice too. I really like the black/bronze look with the pine. And since all the metal in the rest of the house is rubbed bronze it might work better. I'm not going to make everything black, but I plan on doing some clamp lights above my desk that were going to be painted a pretty color, but I like the look of the lights in this picture - kind of white enamel and black. And any hooks I may add later, easy enough to tie in with rubbed bronze since I can find them anywhere. And the best thing of all is I can just go with a regular white paint and save some money over the chalk paint and wax. DH said he would prefer to have the big black shelf in the garage and that's fine with me, but it means I either have to start scavenging the house for something else or buy some shelving. I may just go to walmart and get 3 or 4 bookshelves and add some molding to make it pretty. I'd like to have some open shelving instead of packing everything away behind doors. But if it comes to that I do have metal cabinets in the garage that I can use too. They just need to be cleaned up and painted. I don't know if I'm narrowing it down or adding more choices.

I think everything you've done so far looks great ! I'm sure your bathroom and craft room will look just as great when you're done. I like your idea of painting all of your craft room furniture to match - but please, please don't paint those barrister bookcases ! I love barrister bookcases and yours look to be in good condition. I think they will look fine with whatever other furniture you use in the room, no matter the color. When I saw the washboards hanging on the wall in your laundry room I thought about my MIL's washboard and decided I need to hang it in mine. Thanks for giving me a good idea ! Hope you're having fun working in your basement on this dark, rainy day in Ky !

Well y'all, all my ideas keep getting changed. I was talking about the craft room with DH and trying to come up with more flat surfaces for me to actually craft on and he reminded me of a large L-shaped countertop we've had in the garage for years. It's big enough that it would be along one whole wall and over half of another. I can picture myself scrapbooking with room to spread all my page layouts out. Or cutting fabric on there instead of the floor. Yes, I usually spread my fabric out in the living room floor because it's more comfortable than leaning over the dining room table. With the countertop I can make it a comfortable height for me and use an adjustable office chair for when I want to sit down. So, there's that. Just have to make some leg's for it. I was thinking of attaching it to the wall along the back with legs on the front, but DH said I can't have anything permanent sitting on my floating floor, which will be vinyl planks. I'm really happy he remembered the countertop! But it will take up a lot of floor space I was going to use for storage so for now I'm just planning on using the yarn bookcases. I'm sure I'll add some wall shelves above the countertop too. Especially since the long side will be on a block wall and I'm not worried about hiding it like I would be with the pine walls. woodwind77 , the more I look at the bookcases the more reluctant I've become about painting them. They were my daddy's and I keep thinking about what he would think. If he was still with us I could ask, but since I can't I think I would regret painting them. I do think I will switch out the knobs though to give them a personal and updated look. I believe I am the definition of confused right now. lol All this changing of my mind is why I start planning way ahead, better to change my mind now instead of after I've painted everything! I had to return a picture to hobby lobby today and I believe they came out ahead as I couldn't pass up the 50% off metal sale. I plan on using the large bucket in the back as a trash can (possibly on a plant caddy so I can move it easily to where I'm working), the tray on the left for small things on the countertop, the farm house one will probably be used for pens, pencils and such and I'm thinking my embroidery floss on clothespin bobbins will look cute in the wheelbarrow. I've been eyeballing that wheelbarrow for weeks now and it was the last one they had, just couldn't resist any longer. lol Also got some lighting since there is just one bare bulb in there right now. The pendant lights will go over the countertop and of course I need a desk lamp too. I'm pretty sure this will be all the metal accessories I'll be buying, as I don't want to overwhelm the space with it.
