Ok, my Maytag top loader washer (about five years old) has been making a squealing sound for a few months, usually when it's pumping the water out between washing and rinsing and the last spin cycle. I'm thinking it is either a belt or the pump is going out? Would it be better to check it out now and maybe prevent it from completely dying, or just wait? What to check first? Thanks for any input, I'm clueless about where to start. My Mom thinks it must be one of the little girl's socks stuck in the pump or something.

Go to YouTube and type in the problem. I've fixed our stove, furnace, washer, dryer all from YouTube videos over the years.
