After I got the fuse replaced , I mowed the small yard and 10 days ago the entire 2 acres. After the first 3 rounds it smelled hot. I drove it back to the shed and checked the oil. No oil?! I put 1 pint of oil in and that filled it. Now after the entire yard was mowed and it has set since then.... it now is way over full. Where is the oil hiding and then returning. It should never have shown no oil.. but the dipstick was dry and on one corner was a small black spot. Likewise if it was empty 1/2 qt is not enough to fill it. I think it maybe leaking at the drain plug but not that much.
Would appreciate guidance here!!!!

Maybe you checked the oil too soon the first time and/or did not screw the filler cap down prior to checking.
The hot oil needs a few minutes to drip back down into the oil pan/reservoir before you check it.
The filler cap (that is connected to the dipstick) needs to be screwed all the way down prior to an oil level check.

Thank you Cabin This has just a push down triangular cap with an o ring for locking. It is either on or not. Waiting for the oil .... perhaps I was hasty. But there was no oil in the pan this morning either. I have talked to two mechanics and they are at a loss on the phone.
I used it to mow today but it did start smoking felt rather sluggish and did not seem to have the power it should have. I know the grass was 5 inches but where I was mowing it was not that thick. It has 186 hours on it I could hope I could get at least 200 hours!

No . It was about an inch over full . I did not check it when I got through today. I will go see what it is now.

I would drain some of that oil out of the engine.
