I have a part for my tractor that has an extra hole about 3/4" of an inch. I need to seal this hole and figured tapping it for a bolt and an o-ring would be the easiest thing to do. Does this seem like it would work? The hole is already smooth and the metal is thick at this location. What would be a standard size close to this or bigger that I could get a plug for? Or am I just better off taking to a machine shop?

More detail would help. It seems odd a part would have an "extra" hole. What is the part? What does it do? Why does it need to be plugged?

junaleefarm , Yes........use a 23/32 tap drill and then you can use a 1/2" NPT (pipe plug) to seal hole Use a pipe plug instead of bolt!

Yeah after doing some more research npt with a little teflon tape should do the trick. I am trying to fix a boo boo on my part- I ordered a hydraulic part for my tractor that was supposed 2 only have two ports but has an extra. If the place I ordered from insist on a 25% restocking charge I will just make this one work. Sound okay?

Worked like a charm the hole was even the right size for the 1/2 npt tap.
