We have had a week or so of temps in the 70's and lower 80's and even had a little rain, but dry and hot is back. It is supposed to be in the upper 90's the next 6 days, and no rain in site. This hot dry weather is not only miserable, the fire danger is off the charts. It's going to be stressful until it snows.

I hear ya, mollymckee...93 today and forecast to be hot throughout the coming week (96 tomorrow). If I'm that hot, you're usually about 5-10 degrees warmer. But, hey, next Wednesday looks like cloudy and 70's....I'll believe it if I see it.

Your heat left???
Lucky you!!!
The average high here for this month has been just a shade above 94*F (94.103 to be exact). It has been in the 100+ range four days in a row.
It has only really rained twice this month totaling 7.55 inches, but that all fell in a total time period of only 4 1/2 hours. When it does rain here it comes down real hard and real fast.
My garden has just not been doing really well overall.

I feel for ya, @trellis. My garden isn't doing well, either.
We hit 99, but friends a few miles away said it was 103-104 at their houses. I would venture to say the average high here has been around 85 - we've had a few cooler days, but lots of days in high 80's, low to mid 90's and a few hotter.

We hit 96, it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. I hope they are wrong! It's forecast to be cooler starting next Tuesday, but the forecasts are as likely to be wr as right!

We just hit 101 at 4:30 pm. My garden and animals and me, myself and I really do not like this weather. It was 53 degrees this morning; 50 degree swing in 12 hours. Crazy!

Ya'll in the Pacific Northwest must be freaking out with all of that heat. I know that I would if I were there.
Here in the southeast it is a bit more normal and, unfortunately, expected.
I feel for ya'll.

Not only were we pushing 100 today, but the humidity is 6%. The grass crunches under your feet.

I read today that for Seattle it's been an ALL time high temperature range for July. The city was incorporated in 1869 but I missed how far back the temp records go. I don't know about records here but it's been in the 100s(at least 105 today) and was still 82 at 11pm. Now it's after 1 am and still 78 degrees outside. Hot nights happen here but not as often as this year. It is just yucky. Smoke from a new wildfirefire filled the air for half the day too but thankfully it got blown away this evening by a breeze.

98 here, but down to 49 now, so about a 50 degree temp swing today, too. It usually cools off pretty nicely at night, so I'm able to blow all the warm air out overnight and close everything down while it's still cool in the morning. Thankfully, no new fires in my area. I feel for those of you smelling smoke. Hope the fires aren't affecting any homes.

We have 72 at 6am. We are at 3000 feet and it usually cools down nicely at night but there must be an air inversion. There is some smoke in the air and you can see it on the horizon. It's going to bea very hot day, I hope people are careful and no more fires start.

Here were having 100* weather and our bedroom A/C goes out. DH is running down to Freddy's to get a new one. It's the last one, so their holding it for us. Very blessed it didn't go out last week as DH was in Mi. It doesn't get really hot till around noon. So it will be all in by then. I'm in Central Wa.

countryjo, hope you got your ac in time to prevent melting! I'm really amazed that I haven't needed my ac yet this year. I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom, and that is a blessing when the temps start to go up in the late afternoon. At 8pm it's 81 outside and 76 inside. Compared to he heat of the day, it really felt good to get outside and take a short walk this evening. mollymckee, I don't think I'd be very happy if it was that warm here first thing in the morning. Between a temp inversion and the wildfire smoke, I don't think I'd be breathing too well, either. Hope it gets better soon! Have y'all noticed how many of us on HF are from WA? I still think we need a picnic or something to meet in person! (I'm including our OR and ID neighbors in that invite plan, too)

Now that you mention it, I really did notice that earlier today. Especially because of all the recent complaining from many individuals about the higher than normal temps in the PNW.
I am just going to chalk it up to it being some kind of conspiracy and therefore not give it any further thought.

LOL, you can be an honorary PNW member...of course, you have to show us your webbed feet to qualify! You get added points if your north side is mossy (or at least covered with a thin layer of green algae).

Webbed feet is a requirement??? Well, I guess that I will fail that entry requirement. My DNA is pretty pure.
No green, but I do have a farmer's/fisherman's tan. Does that count? I wonder if I would be considered dark-skinned by PNW standards.

We'll give it a think and get back to you on that. The past couple of days, I've noticed all the lowest branches in my conifers are sagging downward and turned under like claws grabbing at my hair as I make my way down to the barn. All of them are doing it. The penny finally dropped: They're wilting. Water stress. Lots of dying understory, too.

Well, some transplants to the area do go in for plastic surgery on their feet so they can fit in better. Farmer's tans are acceptable as long as they are accompanied by lily white upper arms and legs. Blinding glare from the legs is a plus. Bonus points if your belly can rival the white fish belly look, lol. Raeven, I took a walk around my place tonight and was amazed at how much drier it is. Didn't look to see if my conifers were drooping, but I wouldn't doubt it. I hate it when the grass crunches underfoot.

I do not think that the plastic surgery will work. My DNA is so pure that I can almost guarantee that the prosthetic webs will be rejected. Sorry but my legs are tanned as well. At least to the hem of my shorts. I wear shorts around here all year round. Even in what is locally referred to as winter. I do have a bit of a "raccoon look" though from always wearing sunglasses when outside, especially after a day on a boat out on the ocean.

manygoatsnmore, I've never seen it so bad up here. My whole pasture is crunchy grass. All animals have been on hay for over a month. It's going to be a very long fire season, I'm afraid. So far, it does seem like everyone is taking it very seriously at least.

@trellis, I doubt you could stand it here. Too cold. And usually our moss grows moss. You'd lose that raccoon look inside of a month. We all look like Vince the Mole when the sun comes out, squinting at the sky and saying, "What's happening?? What's happening???"

Lol, Raeven, that is so funny - I always refer to it as "Washington, Land of the Mole People" (Oregon is included, too). We really do squint like crazy when the sun comes out...and no one seems to have sunglasses handy. I've never seen it so dry here, either. I'm used to our annual drought from July 5th to sometime shortly before my October birthday, but this is just unreal. People are wading across the Cowlitz River, and the Toutle is lower than I've ever seen it. No one is even hanging out at the swimming hole down the road - there isn't enough water to swim in.

I have to keep mine in a very specific place in the car, because that's usually when I need them. I've needed them this year a lot. A lot a lot. The wilting trees thing really bothered me, though. These are 40-year-old trees, and they're struggling. Makes them susceptible to disease and insect infestations. Me no likey.

Hello to all the PNWers. Today our temps went from 56-102. And thankfully we do cool down at night. Only have had one smoky day here. And the fire which is ten miles from our place is now 50% contained. Thunderstorm possibilities return on Tuesday. I think I may be getting used to the heat. I was out watering by 6 pm tonight. I usually wait until 7:30 because it feels so hot. manygoatsnmore, maybe we can get a group together next summer. Start planning now.

I have a pair of sunglasses in all the vehicles and one in my purse....do you think I remember to put them on? Only when the sun is coming up or going down. Me no likey this drought, either. I already have trouble with insect infestations...found several trees down today, some with marked insect activity. (These did not come down today, but likely in the last big windstorm we had a while back.) I see firewood cutting on my to-do list in the mornings - before I wilt.

ketoriverfarm, the problem is that I'm a good idea person, but a lousy planner. We need someone in the group who is a really good organizer! Anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm sure the rest of us would be good with that. Ugh on the 102, but I have to agree that I think I'm getting used to it. It felt quite balmy when I went outside this evening - the thermometer still said 84 or 86 (can't remember), but it sure felt better than the high 90's. I did feel it a bit after I'd been walking a while, but not badly.

Too cold?!?!?!?!
I am the one that enjoys going camping in the middle of winter. Actually, I love winter camping.
I remember going out bow hunting in the middle of winter once. The temps started out in the -10*F range and warmed to about 3*F for the high. I stood by that tree all day long (there was too much ice on the tree to climb it), dawn to dusk, and when I finally did have a shot I decided that the buck was too small and let him walk away.
As long as my ears and fingers are protected, -40* is fine. I have had frost bite on my fingers and ears before and it does not have to go too far below freezing for me to feel it on them.

Well, now, see, that's another difference here - when we go hunting, we don't stand around or sit in tree stands, we actually HUNT for the deer, lol.
