Roasting 'raw' cashews in a 350 ° F that is preheated. A single layer on a cookie sheet will be starting to slightly brown at 17 minutes.
I can multi-task in the kitchen. I start a bowl of 'lunch' in the microwave for 3 minutes, then start filling the sink full of dishes with hot water, then go to the restroom and wash my hands, put away the dry dishes, wash the bread board, turn off the water, put a lb of frozen hamburger (in a zip lock) into the dishwater to thaw, grab the 'lunch', eat. Then I can remove the hamburger--ready to cook, wash up the dishes which are nicely soaked. I think I got tired of waiting for the microwave to finish and the dishwater to fill the sink, so I made good use of the time. If I find myself pacing, waiting for things to finish I'll weigh myself on the scale, check the front door for packages, wipe down the stove, empty crumbs from the toaster.

@redfish, and redfish, your comment only reinforces that while I feel bad we killed it when it ended up harmless, at the time we had no definitive way to know and too many animals and humans to risk finding out the wrong way. But we sorta treated it like roadkill in those states where they donate it to food kitchens, since it went to the chickens. As soon as I can get Photobucket to let me make an account (the recaptcha security software isn't liking me right now) I will upload the photos of her I took. I don't think yellow ice cream would bother me, but mint chocolate chip isn't my fav still either way.

redfish, I could have been worse, I suppose! Once I caught her I gave a little tug and didn't get anywhere. So I carted her under my arm for a minute while I did other chickens chores and mulled over what to do, as I didn't want to hurt her throat. I guess she got tired of being carried and figured out my plan, because when I tugged the next time she sorta puked it all back up for me, nice and easy-like.

TIL that while I loved Matt Damon in the movie Martian (the book is better!!), I hated him in Interstellar. Like, a lot.

TIL that kiwi is hardy in my area! I used to envy Lori Christie when she would show pics of her kiwi. This girl bought a male and female yesterday and promptly planted against the chicken run for shade. We love kiwi, so excuse me while I go happy dance!

farmchix, just looked her up. She is active still as a realtor in her home state (WA) but I have not seen her on sites in over 1.5 years. Just hoping all is well with her.

TIL how to make honeysuckle jelly. I finally had a few hours open at the same time my bush was in full bloom - just in time since we close in just over a month. I can't wait to try it, it smells amazing.
TIE (Today I'm Experimenting) with starting some cuttings from said honeysuckle plant. The bush is the first plant I was able to keep alive, and I am hoping to take at least take part of it with us.

On my way to the Grateful thread now! TIL I spoke too soon! I Was "prepared " After all. When I was hurt DH grabbed an open pkg of gauze he got from the VA awhile back because I was in shock and he was helping me. MY prepper gauze in the new lg box IS "non adherent" . Yay. No ouch on the new dressings changed this morning. TIL I should trust myself more when it comes to stocking up on things.

Makes great pb&j sandwiches, too. Here is the recipe: taylormadehomestead.com/recipe-honeysuckle-jelly-childhood-memories-in-a-jar/

TIL (Okay, really yesterday) that even though the stupid non-sitting hens seemingly somehow removed a bit of the shell from one in the to-be-hatched nest while mom took the first baby to eat, poor thing looked like a peeling boiled egg. I shouldn't have helped it along... So my TIL was that I should let an egg like that be in the future, as it could have likely survived had it gotten to rest and finish on its own. It was a beautiful little calico looking thing too, so would have been neat to see grown up. Another TIL- my hen on the eggs might not be my correct, good one from 2 years ago. (I had/have 3 Buff Orpingtons, and they all lost their colored ID bands.) This mom is psycho, she attacks us when we try to help her, which the previous one actually seemed to appreciate the human help of herding her all over the place babies. And the old one mothered wonderfully- watching and warming them appropriately. This hen has left a nest of eggs to feed one baby (which the eggs then got molested by the other hens), goes nuts at us, seemingly doesn't keep the baby warm/under her (but it was nearly 100 out, so maybe baby didn't need it?!). Needless to say, next time we want babies, blue band BO does not get to be the mom.

TIL that I should not put a card table behind the spare bedroom door. Thought it would be a good place to store it, out of sight and out of the way. I then opened the door again and go back in for something, but when I closed the door, I'd pushed the table too far upright and it fell across the doorway, blocking the door from opening again. RATS. I think I'm too fat to crawl through the window, so going to try using a long prybar through the small opening I can make with the door, and see if I can lift that table enough to get the door open. AAAAARG. I should not be left alone without adult supervision! Can't remove the hinges either as they're on the inside. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't get so frustrated with this that I go to the garage for a saw and saw that door in pieces!!

jangirl, Eeks!! I had a similar moment earlier when I was walking in the horse pasture and kicking manure balls apart to dry out. I decided to walk a different direction around a tree, looking down at the ground and slammed the side of my head into a very thick and sturdy low branch that we left because it is perfectly heighted to scratch withers and backs on.... Ouch.

gracielagata, so sorry you banged your head, but at least it didn't happen because you were busy looking at your phone! And no one video taped you and put it online! jangirl, I feel your pain! I've had this happen to me, and it isn't any fun. How did you finally get the door open? Or isn't it open yet?

countrymom22, When my husband came home he just pushed the door hard, OVER the table until he could get his arm squished though the opening and pull the table out of the way. I was so afraid I'd spring the hinges or something. This is a modular home, and the doors and some of the plumbing fixtures are the same as in a mobile home, so more expensive and harder to find. Mom even asked me if it wouldn't be a good idea to saw a hole in the door! Sure glad I didn't have to squish my fat body through that little window!

countrymom22, all so true! I am not a phone user and walker. I was at fire dept training last night and we were putting PPE's and SCBA's on- the helmets and such and air tanks... I forgot my head hurt and smooshed down on it and squealed a bit. They asked me what was wrong. I said simply: 'I smacked my head hard on a tree in the pasture.' To which they all wanted to know how I managed it... So I started out my story with 'well, my horses are fairly potty trained and I was out spreading poop by foot.....' I lost them all at 'my horses are potty trained...'

YIL (yesterday I learned) I can make some pretty tasty just-add-water meals. I made ziti with sausage and mushrooms, southern-style creamed corn with sausage, pasta primavera, oriental ginger noodles - yum, yum! We are going to store these up at the pasture house. It's a quite a ways from town and home, but I do have water and a microwave. I also don't have to worry about them freezing like canned goods.

YIL that if a 5, 7, and 9 year old drink a 2 liter of their Dad's Coca-Cola when I am taking a shower, that I will have a VBD (very bad day). It's so strange because they have been so good about sugar consumption since we watched "Sugar Coated" on Netflix. They were like a pack of whirling dervishes. Note to self:remind DH to hide his pop before bed!

I lost them all at 'my horses are potty trained...' Lol, I pretty much lost it when I read that line, too....even the cat looked at me funny when I burst out laughing! I just had the most wonderful mental picture of all those guys busting a gut at the thought of potty trained horses. Our Winnie tends to pick a favorite spot to poop, too, so I guess she belongs to the "fairly well potty trained" club, too.

manygoatsnmore,Exactly!! I wasn't the one who started it. Our 2nd horse was an evidently very calm crypto stud for the first 5 years of his life (all prior to us), so did the stud pile behavior because of that. My already owned mare picked up on it and quickly learned to poop and pee in the same locations. Then we got horse #3, a gelding... it took both other horses and me making very obvious piles a tad closer to where they eat, then slowly moving them away, to get him to pick up on the pile method. But yes, it was certainly quite comical. I am fairly new to the dept, and a bit of a goofy oddball, so they frequently get to laugh at me/with me because of funky stuff I do or say. But that's okay, I have been that way my whole life and enjoy it. Oh, and PS- there are a few females of us too (myself included).

TIL... well actually I was reminded... that persistence does really pay off. I got two big medical bills for DH that I thought I had resolved with insurance in March. Turns out the smaller one ($700) has been adjusted, but the adjustment wasn't made until after the THIS BILL IS PAST DUE! statement went out. I ended up only having to pay $175, which is awesome!
