I got busy doing other things and didn't practice, I'm ashamed to say. Maybe this evening - it's too pretty out today to stay in and try to sew!

krisinmi, Thanks! Lots of practice. But I was wobbly with the block wow, had trouble seeing it too. Will need better magnification if I ever do another quilt!

I finally did my block this morning. Kept changing my mind on what block to do. Picked one and I still changed it as I sewed. Anyway, it will be in the mail tomorrow.

Since April is more than two-thirds gone all ready, and the weekend is coming (hopefully weekends mean time for sewing), I thought I'd post a friendly reminder to those who have not yet gotten their block sewn. Due date is May 10th. It is highly recommended to allow 10 days for the post office to get your block from your mailbox to mine. Which means you should aim to finish and mail your block before May 1st (which is a Sunday this year). I don't want to rush anyone, but what this boils down to is that you have just about one week to complete your block and get it in the mail if you want to be included in the drawing to win these awesome quilt blocks. Also, if you've had something come up and you know you won't make it on time, please PM me and let me know your status. To date, I've received blocks from 10 of our 21 participants who signed up in March.

Kris, my new knees have been my problem, but things are better and I should have mine on the way the middle or end of next week. It's all planned and cut. I just can't sit and sew very long at a time yet.

Oh boy, I'm not late! I've gotten so side-tracted this past month that I thought I'd missed the deadline. I made two blocks to make up for it. Mine will be going out some time this week. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's blocks!!!!!!

Mine is going out when I get back to that house. I made a block I’ve never made before and it turned out pretty well. I can use leftovers, so I’ve been making more for my own quilt. Using up lots of scraps.

I sent mine today. I'm not really happy with it since I've been so busy helping to take care of my mom with her broken knee, and taking my daughter to her 3 competitions this month. I did find a material I really liked in my stash, since I didn't find anything at our Hancock that is going out of business.

Maura, pauline, calicokatie1, @halfpint, I received your blocks. Wow, what a great batch of mail. Pauline, I love the yoyos! Your block is so cute. Maura, beautiful! I really like that pattern but am too chicken to try it. Calicokatie, I'm in awe of the piecing. I bow to you. Halfpint, great job. I especially like how your coordinating fabric pulls out the variety of colors in the forum fabric.

mollymckee, I got your block today. I love the pattern, not sure if I've seen it before. I'm getting antsy for all the blocks to be received, and to the winner so I can post pictures. This is going to be a great quilt; all the blocks are so pretty.

Well we only have 5 days (NZ time) to wait until the closing day for eligible blocks to arrive, a winner chosen and pictures posted. I can't wait to see them.

Mine should make the deadline, I sent it out today. It's been so crazy here lately I don't know rather I'm coming or going.

I'm going to be bringing up the rear on this one, I'm afraid. Working hard to get it all done. I wish I'd known my sister had all the stuff I needed to make it more easy - the rotary cutter and mat, measuring grids and all that. I'd have gotten them from her sooner and have finished all ready!

wvterri , your blocks are here! I'm amazed at how quickly they arrived. I really like the one done with strips; it's so simple yet there is so much movement in the block. @lilredrocker , got yours today too. No worries, the block is going to fit in just fine. Billie , your block also came today. It was a great day for mail. I love the fabrics you used, they match the forum fabric really well.

Anyone who hasn't mailed their block yet, don't stress. Even if you don't make the deadline for the drawing (Tuesday evening), your block is still very welcome. Try to get it to me asap so that I can send it along to the winner.

Today is the day! The mail has come and gone, which means it's time to draw the lucky winner of all these gorgeous quilt blocks. But first, I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming participation and communication on this project. I'm so glad to see not only familiar 'faces' joining in, but also so many first time quilters. It has been really great to read along this thread and see so much help and encouragement among all of us. Now, without further ado, the winner of our very first Homesteading Families Forum Quilt, as drawn randomly from everyone who returned a block, is. . . DWCongratulations, dw! You now get to choose and purchase the fabric for our next quilt. You will need to supply 4 yards of fabric, washed, dried, ironed, and 3 of the yards cut into approximately 12" x 12" squares. Leave one yard intact, please. Then, mail it all to me, and once I receive it, I will mail you the blocks and extra yard of fabric from this quilt. Pictures will be posted once dw receives her blocks. As the winner, she gets the privilege of being the first to view them.

@kiwifarmgal , How many of the 21 participants got their blocks in on time? How many names were in "the hat"? I have no idea. I do know that I'm NOT in the hat even though I got my block in on time, due to the fact that I live so far away and the cost of postage of the next round of fabric to the US is beyond my budget at the moment.
Perhaps krisnmi could answer that one, since she's running the project.

Tallpines, 18 of 21 people got their blocks in by the deadline. So there were a lot of names in the hat. I accosted my daughter as soon as she got home from work and had her do the officiating.

krisinmi, thanks so much for running this project for us all. It's really fun and I'm looking forward to making my next block. And I'm really happy too that so many first-time quilters have joined in. May this be the start of a very pleasurable addiction.

Just thought of something...when is the next swap due? Trying to decide if I should think FALL or Christmas fabric. Or anyone else could chime in for color I'm going shopping tomorrow.

Congratulations, dw! Now comes the fun part, playing with your blocks until you decide how you want to set them. Thanks for spearheading this krisinmi. I can't wait for the next forum quilt. I've even picked out a couple of patterns already.
