I finished a pair of socks yesterday that had been sitting on my needles for a year. Now if I can find the pattern, I'm going to finish a sweater for my DH.

Cyndi, I found out about Silver's sock tutorials from the old Fiber Forum on HT. That is what made me think I could actually do it. I am just trying to get enough practice in, where knitting is second nature to me. LOL Not sure who recommended it on the old site, but I sure do thank you for reminding me about it.

I have a wool/workshop/craft room in the barn loft. It is my dumping spot for projects. All of my wool in process. I have a carder, picker, combs and hand cards. And bags of fleece. My fleece is roughly sorted into wool to be carded or picked. Wool to be felted. Wool to be spun. Roving from the mill.
I have set myself a goal by this summer to get this room organized. I am tasking myself with working one hour each day. And I started today. I filled and labeled six large clear plastic bins with pin drafted roving.
I thought if I actually wrote down my glial, it might get accomplished. Susan

I love the cardigan! I'm working on an alpaca blend crocheted hooded jacket... Well I have been up untill the last two weeks as we just moved into a rental house and it needs a lot of work. We've been living in a camper for the last 6 months though so I'm so so excited to be in a house!

Never done this before so.... here's an explanation: Sectional v. plain beam warping.
Anyone somewhat familiar with weaving knows dressing the loom is not the most enjoyable part of weaving but it is the most important part. If it's not done right the whole project will be a pain from start to finish or may not even work at all. Warping a loom, in particular, seems to be the big pain for most folks. On a plain beam, you wind your warp on under tension using either a raddle or the reed as a spacer to keep the warp width spaced correctly. You wind on and use corrugated paper or warp sticks between the layers of thread (I use bamboo blinds). The width is important tho. You don't want the warp spaced 18 inches wide for a 12 inch scarf, or vice versa. Plain beam warping is relatively straight forward: Keep even tension, correct spacing, put in warp sticks or paper, wind the entire warp width at once. But there's another type of warp beam on some looms. It's called a sectional beam. It has pins or wires which stick out of the beam. They are spaced 1 to 2 inches apart. Each section holds one bout of yarn for a 1 inch section. It is wound on usually from the back of the loom using a tension box and a spool rack. The threads for 1 inch (whatever your SETT is) are all pulled together at once, tied onto a cord or strap coming from the beam then wound onto the beam between the pins of one section. The problem with sectional warping (sort of) is that you need the same number of yarn packages as you have ends per inch. 10epi requires 10 yarn spools, 24 requires 24 yarn spools and so on. The spool rack holds all these packages and reels off onto the sectional beam, making (hopefully) a nice little 1-2 inch wide rolls of warp yarn. You move the tension box to the next section and repeat the process. Some swear by it, some run the other way. I've never actually done it, but I'm about to. I have a Weaver's Delight loom (sans fly shuttles) His name is Gus. I got it last year - sort of rescued it. I cleaned it up, replaced the heddles and reed, got it back in shape and it's been sitting ever since! It also weighs 250 lbs! I poured over information on sectional warping but then I got a table loom and learned plain beam warping instead, then an Artisat and got into more regular weaving. I built 2 warping boards, 2 spool racks (pic) and even made a tension box (pic) and wove over 30 scarves. Meanwhile Gus sat there patiently waiting for me to return. Well the Artisat is gone now. The room is only half full and Gus wants a warp! So I guess it's time. I have enough basic experience now. Time to try sectional warping. The Weavers Delight comes with a "thread guide" (pic) that clamps over the back beam. You're supposed to put the threads thru the little holes and wind the warp on that way. But that doesn't guarantee you even tension and tension variations will definitely lead to loose threads in the warp. The instructions tell you how to use the thread guide, but weavers I've talked with all say to use a tension box with a sectional beam. It's become a standard. So I will - but I had to modify this one because the back beam is 'round'. Problem: how to clamp the thing on! Today I made a 2 part block that screws together and sits over that 2 7/8 dia back beam. It has comb to guide the threads coming from the spook rack, dowels to create tension and a chunk of old reed to guide them out and onto the beam section below. So far so good. How many cranks?? Good question. You're supposed to keep track of it. If your beam is a 1 yd circumference you and you want 8 yards, you crank 8 times. I put a counter on mine. The WD loom is made for rugs. It was designed specifically for rugs. It has cams that raise and lower the harnesses. There are no pedals. The mechanism is activated by pulling on the beater and pushing back. The cams can be changed to give various patterns in the weave. I've only got one set of cams and it's for plain weave. So old Gus will make a plain weave rug again. Actually I'm warping for place mats. Yeah Rag Rug placemats! I've seem 'em I like 'em and I only have to warp about 12 inches wide! Enough to get my feet wet. So wish me luck. I'll check back in as I progress. Note: That plastic tubing is put over the pins as an additional guide to help keep the threads within the section.

There are the cams that come with a Weaver's Delight loom. All cast iron. How you put them on and which ones, determine the pattern. It was quite a machine for its time - yes a machine. Not just a loom. But I believe it's these that actually brought about the demise of this unique weaving machine. Because of the additional weight on these looms from all the cast iron, they became white elephants.

Everyone is so busy!
Osiris, I always love your weaving pictures!
I have been a slug. A total non-productive slug. LOL! I have two scarves going. One I can't finish until I get another skein of yarn. I have a 1/2 finished hat on some circulars and an afghan in some tweedy oatmeal color yarn. Some months I have the attention span of a gnat! LOL!

You did it Callie!! Wind in Her Hair, love both those cowls! 'specially the drop stitch. @osiris, if I do a little bit every day, I might have it finished by nest Saturday ... then you can see it in person! I still have two more repeats until I finish the sleeves/upper back. I don't think FR has made it here. I know his youngest son is doing great though ... he's been here for a couple weeks ... even though Paul & I are empty nesters, we still find a way to have a 'rental kid' !! Oh man, @kasota ... I couldn't keep track of so many projects at one time! um ... in your post on the wheel thread .... when you said DNA, you meant denatured alcohol and not mangling your hands while restoring the split wheel ... right?

I've been working on knitting a simple scarf. That's it for me right now. I really just like to keep my hands busy and a little bit of knitting or crochet is wonderfully relaxing.

I'm working on a Barn Sweater. Quite pleased with how quickly it's coming along. It's one piece, top down, and so far I have the collar and yoke done, set aside stitches where the sleeves will go, and am about 1/2" below the underarm. sweater laid out top to bottom sweater turned right side out, with collar folded down how it will be when worn
